Rate this book
From the Banat to North Dakota is the first collection of personal histories written by and about the North Dakota Banaters. The collection joins archival data about these pioneers with their individual stories; together they weave a poignant tale about ordinary people relying on their personal courage, community spirit and cultural heritage, to succeed in North Dakota.

Very useful reading for anyone interested in the history of European immigration in the United States. I found this doubly interesting as it is about a lesser known ethnic group (Banat/Batchka Germans) in a lesser visited/populated state (North Dakota). The book itself involves historical information as well as documented accounts of the varying experiences of how members of this group set about leaving, their journey through Europe and the crossing to the New World. There are many comparative accounts of life in the Old World, verses life in the New. Very interesting reading, useful for research purposes.
