Angus and Ishbel love to hear the stories about heroic Scottish warriors. They visit the site where the Battle of Culloden was fought and Angus begins to daydream about the battle, wishing that he could have been there to help fight the Redcoats.His opinion changes when an explosion in their garden unleashes the spirits of ghostly warriors from the battle.Angus is accidentally caught up in the terrifying world of the restless ghosts of English and Scottish soldiers, who must fight the battle again and again. Great little books. Me and my 8 year old are working our way through them in no particular order. Loved reading them when I was a kid and great to see him reading them too.

Another usual Hyde style book. Again, the story is promising, but the writing style really lets it down.

It doesn't seem fair to rate this as I read it purely for nostalgia. The Creepers books used to terrify me. Not as creepy as I remember.

This book stood out to me as there is a lot of history related events in here which are actually very interesting. The author (who is Scottish might I add) obviously had a good amount of knowledge and is passionate about his country’s history. The way he chose to put this into a book was fantastic! It wasn’t trying to be your classic ghost book where the ghosts are trying to get revenge on the characters or haunting a house. It was more of a spirit that isn’t at rest book. I love the way the Scottish history was incorporated and the ending was satisfying as there was no twist or cliffhanger like a lot of 90s kids horror do. Quite a wholesome ending. Only points deducted are because it didn’t read well at times. Simply things like using the wrong names for characters or just too many commas without a full stop to end the sentences. It just didn’t flow sometimes and read a bit jittery now and again. 4/5
