My thanks to the publisher, the author and NetGalley for the ARC. I had the good fortune of reading Act 1: Meet the Family as a review copy last year but had issues with the copy provided that was difficult to open. I am happy that the copy part had been addressed this time with this copy of the full story opening with ease and helping engage with the story.
This is a lovely mammoth volume with nice crisp black and white art. The cover page in color provide a lovely contrast. The stark lines looks clean, hard-hitting and fabulous. The story is dark and the characters are interesting. The story of Marcus and Hunter with their shared family histories and the familiar but dark crime drama unfolds with constant steadiness. There is a wonderful array of characters and some of them are worth investing in and are well written. Throughout the volume there is a thin laced humor that doesn't overwhelm the story.

The size of the volume is intimidating for a graphic novel but the stories are episodic and segregated which helps in working forward with the story.

Recommended.

The individual issues for Rebirth of the Gangster always left me in such suspense as I waited for the next one to be released. Now they're all together in one volume! How satisfying and addicting to have everything back-to-back-to-back. Juan Romera's noir artwork drew me right in and CJ Standal's complex and gripping characters with their intricately connected plot lines kept me swiftly turning the pages. I loved the collection of issue covers displayed all on one page towards the beginning and also seeing the covers for each act throughout as well. I found the Afterword to be particularly moving. The way that Standal talked about his own journey with Rebirth of the Gangster was introspective and insightful. This deepened and enhanced my understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of Rebirth of the Gangster as a whole. CJ, thank you for inviting us into your world and for taking us along on this epic ride!

Netgalley Review

Star Rating: ★★★☆☆

This is a very long intimidating read at first. I'm glad I read it, but it just wasn't my favorite. It follows the story of Marcus and Hunter and how's their lives weave together and have woven together their whole lives, unbeknownst to them. Its a crime drama and I thought it would be in my wheelhouse, but I guess it just wasn't for me. Like I said, It was a good book, I just don't think my enjoyment outweighed the time commitment involved.

Like always read it and decide for yourself!

I received a free ARC, and this review is voluntary

The basis of the story follows Marcus and Hunter, whose families share a history together, unbeknownst to them. More characters are introduced into the story as it unfolds, and we see the importance of their presence. It's a crime-drama, featuring an array of well written characters, with a compelling story.

The length upfront can seem like a lot, but each chapter is worth the read. It's suspenseful, and well worth the commitment.
