Take Back Control of Your Health Our modern culture has conditioned us to believe that doctors and pills are the only way to good health. Still we are plagued by heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's that lower the quality and longevity of our lives. How can we break out of this vicious, deadly cycle? The answer, according to Robert Moroney, is to rid our bodies of the toxins that have built up due to stress, addictions, and traumatic events. In Total Body The Way to Healthy Aging, Bob details his own battles with lung cancer and hepatitis and how he cured himself through a scientific, systematic program of all-natural alternative-medicine techniques. He details the causes of our most common ailments, specific food supplements and practices that support recovery, and safe and effective detoxification protocols you can follow to promote better overall health and a longer life that is free of chronic degenerative diseases. Even if conventional doctors have said it s hopeless, Total Body Detoxification works!
The subject of the book is vitally important, since in this day and age most of us have bodies filled with toxic substances, and suffer from many life-style diseases. The doctors can’t cure us, so we need to cure ourselves, and the solution is to detoxify ourselves – cleanse our bodies of all the toxins we’ve filled ourselves with through our atrocious eating habits, as well as the many we’ve picked up, inadvertently, from our environment, including the personal hygiene products and cleansing substances we use.
For the invaluable information in this book I would have given 5 stars, had it not been for the fact that I found the style of the book so heavy that it was exceedingly difficult for me to plough through it, and in fact didn’t make it to the end. Of course, this could have been because I wasn’t totally ready to commit to detoxifying.
The author tells us his personal story. He smoked heavily, including numerous marijuana joints a day (though marijuana has now been revealed to have curative properties); he also snorted cocaine and drank too much wine. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and decided to heal himself by consulting alternative practitioners and cleansing his body. He “took herbs, fasted and did colonics”. He sat in a sauna, and had his liver and gallbladder flushed.
He realized he also needed to release “long-suppressed anger and fear”. He had had a lifetime of “abusive habits” and excessive drinking led to non-viral hepatitis.
He intended this book to be a “basic self-health-care manual that outlines what a high-level health maintenance programme” should look like.
He shows us how to: 1) Greatly reduce the incidence of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s 2) Vitalize and energize our aging experience 3) Greatly reduce our reliance on allopathic medications 4) Greatly enhance our mental function 5) Release old traumas and give new meaning and purpose to the latter part of our life. The author discusses adrenal fatigue, metabolic syndrome, leaky bowel syndrome, yeast overgrowth, microorganisms, heavy metal poisoning and digestive disorders.
He advises us to find an alternative health practitioner to support us in our healing process. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a good one, neither did I have the financial means to consult one. He strongly believes in the benefits of colonics, which he himself obtained much help from. (I myself can’t avail myself of this treatment, since I have Crohn’s and no colonic therapist in this country will treat Crohn’s patients.) He also recommends ionizing foot baths, which I myself have tried and will use again. I had strong detox reactions to taking such foot baths, which signified to me that they were extremely effective.
There is a chapter on weight loss and weight management.
Moroney gives us the five important laws of total body detoxification: 1) It takes physical energy and a powerful commitment to detoxify the body. 2) You cannot detoxify beyond what you are willing to release emotionally. 3) Total body detoxification is an essential component of any consciousness-raising and healing effect. 4) Suppressing emotional pain and trauma creates energy blocks in the body that attract and hold toxins, which will be released only when the blocks are dissolved. 5) The greater the amount of toxins stored in your body, the more sensitive you are to environmental “onslaughts” and the less capable you become at coping with stressful situations. There is a section on methylation, which can be inadequate or excessive and lead to all sorts of disorders, but unfortunately I haven’t at all understood what methylation is, except that it is a “chemical conversion procedure”.
The book contains a list of seven don’ts:1) Eliminate refined flour and sugar 2) Eliminate trans fats 3) Eliminate foods containing excitotoxins – aspartame, MSG, etc. 4) Reduce caffeine and alcohol intake 5) Don’t drink pasteurized cow’s milk and limit dairy products as a whole. 6) Limit your intake of grains and starches, particularly wheat and soy 7) Avoid drugs and medications, unless your life depends on them.
There are chapters about disease beginning in the colon, the lymphatic system, liver-gallbladder cleansing, detoxifying the kidneys, heart disease, etc, etc.
A negative factor was that I did not find any reference to coconut oil, which is an essential nutrient, particularly to prevent and cure dementia. It is the absolute best oil to use in cooking. Nor did I see any reference to the importance of drinking water, though I may have missed such reference.
To sum up, this book contains the main essentials of detoxification and nutrition, as far as I can see, and the author understands and stresses the importance of the mind-body connection.
However the book is no easy read, especially, perhaps, the later chapters. I won’t directly recommend the book owing to the latter factor, but if you are determined to detox, the book will provide you with useful pointers and perhaps you will be able to carry through a total detoxification process. Good luck!
Robert Moroney's Total Body Detoxification guides the reader towards natural and common sense approaches to health and longevity via nutrition, exercise and stress reduction. I've long believed that the increasing number of cancer, heart disease and diabetes sufferers is directly related to our high-stress lives paired with fast food and processed junk food. I also agree with his opinion that allopathic medicine (tradtional doctors and pharmaceutical companies) is a for-profit business - they have a huge interest in keeping us popping pills that treat symptoms instead of curing the causes of our diseases. I especially liked reading his theories on the link between high stress and disease.
Moroney's begins his story by telling how he found himself middle aged, sick, tired, burned out and suffering from several health issues. He admits he had a history of extreme alcohol, nicotine and drug use, which of course explains why his liver and lungs were rebelling. He was a professional gambler, with the stress that accompanies that lifestyle. Throughout the book he includes personal stories that add credence to his theories about implementing stress-control, diet and clean living.
Some of his suggestions and beliefs were just a little too New Age for me. He has used, believes in and promotes Scientology, reincarnation, colonics, balancing your chakras, and makes many references to Life Extensions (a foundation that sells expensive vitamin supplements and researches alternative medicine), and A Major Difference ionic footbaths (expensive and unproven). Each person reading his book will have to decide what parts are right for them.
The bottom line is that we are not doomed to die young, or suffer chronic health issues. We also should not be slaves to the medical community and popular culture - popping Rx pills while eating highly processed foods and grinding our teeth from stress. The secret of health and vitality is: Eat natural, whole foods from local sources, take vitamin supplements to compliment the foods we eat, drink plenty of water, get enough rest, avoid illegal drugs, alcohol and nicotine, and get enough exercise.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, in exchange for writing an honest review.
