Rebecca Paulinyi was born in the South West of England in February 1992. She has been writing since she was a child, starting with short stories and poems that rarely got finished. Her weekly school assignment of writing a diary about the weekend provided a perfect platform to be inventive, with Rebecca's stories revolving around the aliens living on Planet Odd.
Writing has been her passion for years, and the unfinished stories became full length novels as she became a teenager. At eighteen she left home to go to York University, studying English Language and Linguistics, and following her graduation qualified as a teacher. Alongside writing two stand alone novels and a series, Rebecca teaches in a primary school in Bristol, where she lives with her husband and dog.

Loved this second instalment in the series and hope to visit Blackpool Sands one day. Already downloaded and begun book 3. Such a lovely community feeling. Made me want to move to Devon. Plus, everyone needs an Alfie!
A warm and cosy romance set in the beautiful Devon countryside.
I’d like to thank the author, Rebecca Paulinyi, for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book and I will give an honest review here. Broken-Hearted on Blackpool Sands is the second title in Paulinyi’s Dreaming of Devon series. Whilst it reads beautifully as a standalone, some of the characters, including Ivy, were introduced in Sunsets over Salcombe. Ivy Thompson is 25 years old and still living at home with her dad, Steve. Together Ivy and Steve have built their family farm into a thriving small dairy business, Colebrook Dairy, which delivers direct to customers and has recently opened a small shop. Despite being busy with the dairy Ivy likes to meet up with her boyfriend, Jackson Shaw, as often as possible, however, Jackson has been too busy to see her for a while, or even reply to messages. Ivy and Jackson have been together since she was 17 and Ivy has always dreamt of them marrying and having a family together. When Jackson finally agrees to meet up with Ivy for a picnic on Blackpool Sands she is hoping that he might propose but instead was left alone and heartbroken on the beach, her favourite place and sanctuary. In order to cope with her upset, Ivy throws herself into work, barely sleeping or eating, and trying to avoid having to talk to friends. When Ivy has to drop off a delivery to Sunset Shore Campsite, she is unable to avoid her friend Christi King (the protagonist of Sunsets over Salcombe, who helps her aunt run the campsite) and telling Christi about her unhappiness. A visitor staying at the campsite catches her eye and when he returns for a second visit Ivy decides to risk a fling with the stranger. They have a fast-burn attraction (the narrative is “closed door” rather than sexually explicit) and everything feels natural together. Ivy wasn’t looking for romance, just an escape from her misery and loneliness, however her heart might have other ideas… Broken-Hearted on Blackpool Sands is a beautiful romance that flows well and has a simple but good plot. Since this is a fairly quick read, only Ivy’s character is really well developed, but all of the characters are realistic. The narrative is told from Ivy’s point of view so the reader gets to know her well and feel for her. I very much enjoyed this story and would recommend Broken-Hearted on Blackpool Sands.
This was perfectly sublime reading. Hooked from the beginning immersed in her life. Beautiful writing , who doesn’t vie for a bit of sand and sea views. What’s to lose? When she thinks of her fella , surely he’ll want the same as she? He’d love it there too . Wouldn’t he also like to live by the sea? Well that was a blow but she shows she has spirit and a little grit. Go girl! A great story , well told , with bold details and awesome descriptions and scene setting . The characters sublime and tell their own tale with uber scene setting that will never fail. Awesome prose from the pen of Rebecca Paulinyi who tells the story so succinctly. I’m writing this review in my own words voluntarily .
Loved this book. I know the area and can immerse myself into it and picture myself there watching from the sidelines. I’m looking forward to the next instalment.
I loved this book about Ivy. I know the area so could picture it while reading. I love this series I hope we have an update about Ivy and Alfie in the next book.
