Trista is the author of The Tempie Rosenthal Series, including 'Rabbit's Feet' and 'Polarity' with more to come! She writes supernatural horror books mainly, and also writes a zombie short story series on her blog.
Trista has always had a passion for writing, ever since she was in elementary school. This inspiration continues to flourish as the ideas keep evolving.
When Trista is not writing, she is spending time with her family. She has two boys, (three if you count the significant other) and several pets. Trista has an affinity for animals and helping others.
Another solid entry in the TEMPIE ROSENTHAL series from Trista Borgwardt!
Picking up pretty much where we left off in the last book, Tempie is coming to grips with all the weird, supernatural business that has become a part of her life. At first she rejects it, refusing to speak to even her boyfriend and best friends, trying for a normal life. But no normal life is to be had, and the villains of the supernatural world have an unnatural fixation on Tempie. She is, as one character later suggests, a supernatural magnet.
In this outing, though, Tempie is no longer just an ordinary girl relying on her wits and luck. Though everyone keeps insisting she is not supernatural, she is an Essentia, a person with an unusually strong aura capable of, essentially, magic. The fact that she was clearly magical when everyone kept insisting she wasn't seemed like a silly distinction to me, basically just there so Tempie as a character didn't have to give up her "gee, whiz, I'm just an ordinary girl" persona.)
A bit of ado is then made about how every action must have an equal and opposite reaction, and how good must be balanced by evil - the titular "polarity" - when Tempie is surprised to meet her latest nemesis, an evil Essentia seemingly just as powerful as she is.
Borgwardt has improved as an author with this latest outing. Most of the rough edges of RABBITS FEET have been smoothed over. The tendency of every character to tell Tempie how great and wonderful she is all the time has been backgrounded, though not entirely dispensed with, unfortunately. All the gruesome deaths and steamy sex scenes were back, and thankfully most (although not all) of the exhausting dream sequences were cut. Interestingly, what I had thought had been a slightly bloated cast of characters in RABBITS FEET worked a lot better this time around. So many characters meant a bunch could die in RABBITS FEET and a bunch could still die in this one and still make an impact.
This is a great read and I'm suspecting the third in the series (when's that coming, Ms. Borgwardt?) will be even better.
