EZ as 1-2-3: Come Learn About Bugs A-Z A Charming Children’s Picture Book by Kathryn L. Novak (Absolutely Adorable & Educational Children’s Rhyming Picture Book) (Read Aloud ages 2-3, & first reader ages 4-5 and up)
This buggy children’s picture book is filled with brightly colored pages and delightful insects of all shapes and sizes so cute even the smallest child will enjoy them. Kids of all ages will have loads of fun learning new things about bugs they know, and about bugs they’ve never heard of.
Parents may learn a thing or two as well…
1. Which beautiful blue bug is now extinct? 2. Did you know that there’s an ant that’s not an ant, but is a wasp in disguise? 3. What bug has a very large brain? 4. Have you heard about the wiggly insect that has several hearts, but no lungs? 5. Which insect acts a lot like a bat? 6. How about the insect that can regrow lost limbs?
You’ll find the answers to all of these questions and more, in this delightful rhyming picture book for children. Don’t forget this is also an A-Z book that teaches children the alphabet as well. This book is as beautiful as it is educational. Every single page is fully illustrated with brightly colored images, and adorable little bugs.
I loved this alphabet book; I loved the rhymes and I loved my kid laughing at the drawings and the text. Parents cherish the moment when their young kid “reads” the book back to them for the first time; you don´t know if they are really reading or if they are reciting the book by memory, or both. And let´s face it: it is a magical moment for the little guys too.
The special thing about this book is that it is all about… bugs! And who doesn’t love bugs? (Okay, my mom doesn’t love bugs, but apart from mom… who doesn’t like bugs?) Children are always thinking about little insects; they are intrigued by ants, butterflies, and worms; the whole package. So this book is an excellent start before further proceeding into the deeper study of insects, known as entomology.
Kathryn illustrates her own books and it was interesting witnessing her evolution as a plastic artist since “It stinks to be pink!” This book has a nice consistent theme and tone through all pages and colors are nicely balanced through all letters. I, as babies, love primary colors!
So if there is a small bug expert at home dying to learn the alphabet, by all means, go for “EZ as 1-2-3, Come learn about bugs A-Z”
Target readers: Toddlers & Beginners to alphabetical world.
Scared of bugs? A novel method to demystify bugs.
Kathryn Novak’s ABC Bug Book is a triple delight. How? 1. This book takes you down the pathway of bugs. Some well-known (bees, hornets) and some that are revelations (an earthworm has ……number of hearts. How many? Read the book to find out!) ; and also extends to extinct bugs (Guess which blue beauty is lost to us forever?)
2. Every bug can be used as an educational tool for learning the alphabets. Quite a giant step away from A for apple, B for bat…Don’t be surprised to hear your kids reciting A for Aphids, B for butterfly…
3. The lovely illustrations are bright, colorful, cute and vivid. They can serve as an aid for learning colors too!
So, education & entertainment, imagination & information, art & alphabets, color & curiosity - all rolled into one delightful book. Recommended, definitely!
This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read about bugs!
Kathryn L. Novak's illustrations are amazing as always. But she also ties very interesting bug facts in with learning the alphabet. Some of the bugs are more beautiful than others. For example:
"X is for Xerces, a blue butterfly. This beauty's extinct, we shall never see him fly."
The book is full of sweet rhymes which makes it a very pleasant read. If you are not a bug lover before reading this book, you might turn into one!
I think this book would not only be useful for having at home to read with your kids, but also for teachers to have at school.
I will definitely be reading this one over and over again because this book is top shelf!

Most alphabet books consist of a random pictured tied to a letter. I like the fact that all the pictures in this book are tied to the same theme. It allows the book to be more flexible. Younger children will learn the name and also colors from the simple and bold illustrations. Older child have the opportunity to learn interesting facts about insects at the same time. I did not know that earthworms have five hearts or that a praying mantis can turn its head 180 degrees. Most children are fascinated with insects, whether they are afraid of them or not.
The rhymes are catchy and clever but not too long. An older sibling might enjoy reading this book to a younger brother or sister. If you are longer for a well-written and illustrated alphabet book, this is one of the best on the market. Highly recommended!
Learn your ABCs while you learn about insects! This book is a treasure trove of information about all sorts of bugs. Even I learned something, and that's coming from a scientist! For example, did you know that the praying mantis "turns his tiny head one hundred eighty degrees"?
Kathryn's illustrations are simple yet accurate and are on colorful backgrounds, so you can teach your children colors as well! This is a delightful and educational book sure to please children as well as their parents.
I received this book in return for an honest review.

EZ as 1-2-3 Come Learn About BUGS A-Z by Kathryn L Novak Wanted to read this one especially because it's everything my grandson would love. Illustrated colorful children's book that not only tells you what each letter stands for which bug but also fun facts about them to make the learning process more fun. My favorite is June bug. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
This is a unique picture book in many ways. The author is also the illustrator of this book. She used bright polka-d0tted backgrounds for each page. Each page is full of rhyming information about the fascinating life of bugs. This book contained a lot of information. I enjoy reading children’s books that teach adults as well. I’m sure my grandkids will love this book.
The beautiful and colorful artwork in this book is truly amazing. This was the best A-Z book that I have ever seen. I really enjoyed reading this book to my grandchildren and we all learned something new. Great Book!!
