A nice, refreshing view of a timelesss and extraordinary story. Well written, and well researched. Doesn't always fit with preconcieved notions about the Bible, but very good and thought provoking all the same. There were some very emotional scenes, and over all, I recommend this book.

In this book on the life of the man who raised Jesus Christ as his own son, you discover how Joseph must have felt knowing he was raising the son of God. The author fills in missing periods that are not mentioned in the New Testament and you can tell that he studied the traditions and customs of the time to make up what might have happened to Joseph and his family. It was clever how he has Joseph watch Jesus as an angel after he died to fill in the scenes where Joseph wouldn't have been present even if he were still alive.

There were some parts of the story that bothered me because the New Testament does not say that these things happened. Fortunately, Michael Britton puts notes on each chapter at the end of the book saying why he wrote that chapter the way he did. I understand but still don't believe they happened that way (when Mary visited Elizabeth, the marriage of Jesus, etc.). All in all, it was a very thought-provoking book.
