I can't fully appraise this, as my reading of it was limited to a quick browse in a bookshop (as a $50-plus hardcover it's not within my price range) but it made a pretty good impression during that brief time. It's illustrated with the writer's own artwork, giving it a personal touch that wouldn't be achieved in a book with photographs. From the Puriri moth, New Zealand's biggest, and the varieties of weta to more common garden-variety bugs, it's a true labour of love to our insects.
