Well, I see this is quite the obscure book and I'm not surprised. It's labeled a "children's book" though I'm not really sure why. The "picture book" aspect is actually just the artist/author's paintings of various sights in Montreal such as markets, festival days, housing areas, etc. and the "story" is various vignettes to match the paintings with Tanobe's impressions of the city and Montreal residents in the early 1970s. It was interesting enough, mostly because I have a trip to Montreal planned--also, Tanobe has an intriguing perspective as she was born in Japan and moved to Quebec later in life so she makes some comparisons. However, I didn't find the writing particularly fabulous and the artwork wasn't quite my cup of tea--and I think they would probably be a bit dull for most children.
