Goodbye, Paci! is part of the Tricky Topic Books series by Lovevery, which is designed to help frame conversations about difficult topics for children in relatable ways. Like other books in the series, Goodbye, Paci! does an excellent job.
Also, like the other books in this series, the photo illustrations are useful for helping the preschool audience connect with the story and the topic. The text complexity and length of the story are ideal for the younger preschool age group (around 3-4 years old) but perhaps too simplistic for 5-year-olds.
In this story, I really appreciated the reinforced message for parents that giving up a paci does not need to be an all-or-nothing proposition. Parents can instead provide transition opportunities, such as only using a paci at night, as the dad in the book offers. The inclusion of the paci bag, like the one used by the little girl, Clementine, in the story, was a fantastic touch. The book also has a QR code on the back that links to an article and other resources related to helping children give up the pacifiers.

This sturdy board book features vivid photographic illustrations and simple text, showing how a father talks his daughter through the process of saying goodbye to her pacifiers. The pictures are full of interesting details and clearly show the little girl's emotions, and the book comes with a bag for pacifiers that matches the one in the photographs. This book is a helpful parenting tool that acknowledges kids' difficult feelings while also nudging them towards growth and a sense of accomplishment.
