I Don't Want To Level Up #1

I Don't Want To Level Up Book 1

Rate this book
A future CEO of the video games development company finds himself in a strange forest, surrounded by dangerous, bloodthirsty creatures, having no idea how he ended up in there.

Rockin Starling was a rising star in his company, starting from a mailman position and 'leveling up' all the way up to the future Vice President of the company. Before his last interview, to be promoted to the 99th level position within the company, Rockin Starling was dragged out by his colleagues to a celebration party.

Unfortunately for Rockin, the party ended with him having far too many drinks and waking up in who knows where, with no phone, no money and no idea how to leave the place. That's when his new adventure of 'leveling up' began. But will he be willing to go down the regular adventurer's path? He had his fair share of ‘level ups’ within his company only to lose everything after a single night’s party. What path will Rockin Starling take this time?

I Don’t Want To Level Up (book 1) is the first book in the series, which is work of fiction. It includes fantasy isekai, gamelit, dungeon exploration, unconventional (harem) relationships, and some adult sexual content.

The author claims this book is the first in a harem series. You would never be able to tell by reading it. Which is a shame, because there are some interesting plot ideas in it, which saves it from being a 1 star book.

The most glaring and insane part of that claim is the MC doesn't hear not hear another person's voice until page 245 of the book. That's the 68% point. Before that, he hears only the UI voice, and his own through a lot of talking to himself.

The MC is basically an incel by choice. He's not just a virgin, but has never even been on a date by age 27, devoting all of this time and efforts into climbing the corporate ladder. A corporation that makes video games, and that he designed their newest hit game... despite having never played a video game of any sort himself. And yet now he's been isekai'd into a video game like world.

There is nothing close to a harem forming in this book. He meets two women at the 68% part of the book, and by the end, he has established no chemistry with either. He's (badly) flirted with the assistant of the Adventurer's Guild, and that's it. We have little to nothing to go on for any of these women.

This book is frankly a big disappointment. It isn't a slow burn. There is no burn. I recommend anyone looking for a harem story to avoid it.

Doesn’t really fit the genre it’s in. Overall I think it would be an interesting book, and world as the MC is slowly starting off his journey to becoming stronger than everyone but only for kids… this is not an adult book nor should it be considered an adult book. The MC I think is 27, but would be a better story if he was 13. Not exciting.

I'd like to give this 2 1/2 stars, but such is reading/rating. It's a fine book, with a late book theme that make me wary of the next book, especially given the blurb for it, but we'll see how that's handled if I pick it up.

I'm not sure if I will continue or not. I really dislike the author's/mc use of non-words constantly in conversations - I don't remember what it was but think 'um' ALL THE TIME. And once they put cough in quotes, which was worse. Another editing pass might have helped. Character grew on me, but not a ton. I also don't understand his reasoning for not joining a party that was actually trying to be nice/help him at the end, he said something but it seems at odds with his goals and thoughts to that point. Just kind of strange. I thought at some point there would be a reference/explanation to how he ended up in the dungeon, but apparently not.

Irritating. Powered through it anyway.

The first twenty chapters is spent dealing with the most moronic Vice President of a video game company you’ll ever encounter. He’s probably the VP of Epic Games, so maybe it’s not so far-fetched.

The story isn’t bad, but the MC is like sand in your jockstrap. Sharp as a bowling ball, dense as lead, bright as an unlit basement.

If you can get past the first twenty or so chapters, it gets better. Or maybe I just got used to the MC being a government certified Grade A idiot.

No obvious spelling or grammatical errors. Slow burn progression.

I’m curious to see if book two improves and I’ll report back if it does.

A unique spin on a fantasy world LitRPG dungeon story

The book starts out slow as you think that the book is stuck about an individual trapped in a dungeon forever in a unknown world . But an behold it starts getting interesting an the story starts progressing along with a excellent story line . Can't wait to see how the story progresses in the next book . recommend reading excellence story .

Interesting story with a twist to the typical system

Would recommend if you like weak to strong mc type stories. It's a different take on how someone could use the iseksi process to get ahead and it's quite funny. This first book is a good start to setting up the MC and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

A very different approach to leveling up.

Most books of this genre have main character doing all they can to raise their levels as fast as they can in order to become more powerful as they go. This story has the MC still becoming powerful, just not by leveling up. Doing that adds the dynamic of appearing weaker than he really is….which just adds fun.

DNF @ 14%
The very definition of moron MC. It doesn't help that his background doesn't make sense. At 14% in the MC is only just maybe starting to realize he's not hallucinating. It's also excruciatingly slow. At this rate I figure we'll finally meet the second character half way through the book.

It had promise, the onomatopoeia was weird but the stand out problem for me was the lack of dialog and characters for most of the novel, odd for the genre. I may give the second a chance just to see what the wider world actually looks like. We see very little by the end.
