Eyes Without A Face was an extremely captivating and intense book. I purchase it about 9 months ago, but couldn't get into it. I skimmed through a couple chapters then placed it on my bookshelf. I knew I would return to it one day…..one day when I was mentally prepared to read about Trauma and drama. It is a new year and my goal is to practice setting time aside for self care-doing things I enjoy. The last book I read was 9 months ago and it was also a book about Trauma- domestic violence experienced by a former NFL players wife called Silent Cry by Dorothy Newton. Back to Eyes Without a Face, it took me on the same emotional roller coaster ride that Samuel had endured. There were many times that I had to stop and put the book down to catch my breath. The sexual imagery was very descriptive and allowed the reader to vision him being raped and the sexual encounters he experienced while prostituting. Samuel’s story is an example of someone who lost themselves, but through trials and tribulations eventually found their value. I admire his strength and courage for sharing his story and especially for using the full and nicknames of his abusers. Samuel is winning with each book that is purchased because he is not allowing the haters to win by trying to keep him silent. Eyes Without A Face is an informative and educational read for it allows those who have experienced similar abuse to know that they are not alone and for others to learn how to support someone who is going through abuse. Please read, you will be enlightened and won’t regret it. Thank you again Samuel for sharing your story so that you can continue to heal while you are educating and informing others that child sexual abuse is a way too common problem in the world and affects all communities...and that it can have an everlasting impact on people into adulthood and throughout their life.

I gave this book a reread after having first read it years ago. I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. I do find the first half to be a bit jumpy. Holloway progresses between people and events so quickly that it is hard to keep up sometimes. It all evens out in the second half though. Most things I didn’t understand are explained. As a queer man, I was able to relate to many aspects. I was really captivated by Holloway’s transparency in describing his tumultuous marriage. It is definitely a cautionary tale that I will always keep in mind when navigating my own relationships.

This book is an emotional read. At times it is very sad and then moves you to anger, leaving you wondering if there is any hope or promise for the author. Glad I experienced this life's story.
