We’ve watched him fight against the demons in his mind and heart. Now Nate Sheppard finally gets his happily-ever-after.
With his wife, Lynn Sheppard, by his side he managed to defeat every demon that came their way and now they live a picture-perfect live in the outskirts of Langley. Their life has been turned upside down with the birth of the twins, Luna and Ann, and Nate decided to take on a new role as a stay-at-home-dad. But with Oliver in desperate need for someone to fill the gap in his team, Nate’s decision to take a step-back from the CIA starts to unravel.
Watch the Sheppard family deal with everyday struggles instead of fighting terrorists, with bedtime stories about anxious penguins, kindergarten drawings, orange juice breakfasts, and a visit to see Mama at the CIA headquarters.
There is only one question that Will Nate ever return to active duty?
Jessica Girke is a contemporary romance author that writes real and raw love stories. Her books often include mental and physical health topics and she is not too shy to write it in all details.
I've found out about this author from a fellow bookstagrammer, to whom I need to thank for sharing Jessica's books! Also, thank you Jessica for offering me this copy!🤗
‼️To the ones reading this, you need to know that this is the third book of 'Demons' series‼️ After the traumatic experiences from the previous two books, Nate and Lynn are now on their path to healing. The road is loaded with bumps, but they'll do whatever they can to give their twins the best childhood possible, without worrying how they could be affected by their parents mental health.
We get to see them in their parents shoes and see how sweet they were with their two little girls (Ann and Luna). Now, other issues are concerning them, like which is the right decision in Nate's case, when it comes to his job, or whether they should expand their family.
I liked that this story had a sensitive side and it focused on how fragile a human being can be. Mental health is a serious and very sensitive subject, many people being embarrassed to come clean about their issues and that can only lead to making things worse. In this case, the trauma from the war zone was so strong, that gave Nate some really vivid nightmares, which were rarer now, after he followed the right treatment for his issues. Unfortunately, many people deal with such things every day and being open to treatment is the best path to living a normal life, as normal as possible, in these circumstances.
This book was the perfect wrap-up of Nate and Lynn's love story. They needed some peace and quiet, to focus on their family and on each other. I'm sad that it's the end of their stories, but I'm glad how their lives turned up and their friends too.
Before I start talking about this book, I want to let you know that you can pre-order it from Amazon. And to warn you that there are spoilers in my little presentation.
All I did with this book was cry, laugh and smile from chapter to chapter. I went through Nate's story and the demons he was able to defeat because he had someone to fight for.
With all the therapist sessions and Lynn's talks and support, Nate was able to overcome the demons that haunted his mind, even if they managed to break through the barrier. It was only once and he was able to talk about them.
I love the communication, maturity and understanding of the two, Lynn and Nate. Their mutual support.
I love that the twins are understanding and way smarter than any three year old.
I also like that the secondary characters in Lynn and Nate's story came out.
I can say that I was dying for a little Sheppard to show up, but it's not bad how things have turned out since that discussion.
It was a stopgap, created by Nate's fears.
But it was resolved with another discussion and a lot of understanding.
We had two stories in one, with two more than perfect endings.
I loved seeing Nate as a father, managing to take care of two energetic little girls who look like him.
I also liked his return to work, with all the details set up by Oliver.
And the friendship between the two agents. But also between the deputy director and the doctor.
They created their own family.

I really loved this book, it deals a lot with mental health and it was done in a realistic way. Sometimes you can't do it alone, sometimes you need help and Nate and Lynn have people around them that understand them and that can help. This book focuses on Nate and Lynn and their 3 year old twin daughter. This book has a good balance between being parents and still making time for each other and for their own mental health. There are also chapters that focus on teaching their children about Nate his PTSD and his mental health. Those girls are really caring for other people and very aware of struggles others might have.
"I still can’t believe we have such wonderful kids.” - Nate
“We did good with them. ” - Lynn
I'm really happy that they created a safe space for themselves and their family. Jessica Girke did a great job with this Serie (I've only read this book, but I'm sure the first two books in Serie are great as well, I will read those books too) and building the characters and their story, this book felt hopeful, even in hard times with the right people and help there will be better day, Nate and Lynn got their happy ending, their family and they have each other! And what I really loved was that the time in chapters continued, every chapter started where the last one ended.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author, thank you so much for the opportunity, I definitely will read more book from Jessica Girke in the future!
Although I am sad one of my favorite series is coming to a close, 'Defeated Demons' was the perfect conclusion to the Demons Series by Jessica Girke. I really enjoyed seeing everyone get their HEA.
As a parent it also touched my heart seeing Nate & Lynn be so transparent about Nate's mental health, but at an age appropriate level, rather than hiding it like it is something to be ashamed of.
I have a lot of quotes highlighted, but here are a few of my favorites:
"Nothing could describe the love of a parent for their child."
"Grief was a long process with good and bad days."
Thank you, @jessicagirkeauthor, for trusting me to ARC read another one of your beautiful books!
This was such a cute novella and a good ending to Nate and Lynn’s story. To have followed them from the very start to the end of their journey was special. I’m excited for more stories within this world.
This was a great ending to Nate and Lynn's story. I had been really looking forward to this book. I followed Nate and Lynn's story fro. The first book and absolutely loved them all. These books show a strong message through the series about mental health and shows us how differently it affects people. Yes there is a romance side to the books and some of it a little spicy. But it's the bigger picture that captures your attention and this book tells us With the right people and support that demons can be defeated. Nate and Lynn deserved their HEA and I'm sad to see their story end but have loved been able to read it.
I received an ARC copy for and honest rievew thank you so much Jessica for the opportunity
This book was so well written and just all around amazing for sure a five star read and I can't wait to read the first two book in the series
I think Jessica captured anxiety and nightmare in such a raw and real way that I was in tears for some of the book
I also really love the characters you get attached and so when they feel sad you can feel it too just such an amazing book and I will definitely be reading more of Jessica books in the future
Jessica worked so hard on this series and it shows with the final book that gives us the happily ever after that Nate and Lynn deserve. Every single book is a beautiful, but hard, look at mental health and the stigmas behind PTSD and more. Check your trigger warnings before you read, but a very worthwhile series. I look forward to more from Jessica’s universe.
An amazing read, honestly this was one of the best stories I read in a while. It was cozy, family story with interal conflicts. Serious topics like PTSD and Anxiety was perfectly written. And how they deal with them as a family. The kids were just so cute. All four as a family and then friends all were just wonderful. I would definitely Recommed it.
This book is so cute and at the same time so full of reality. People suffer from anxiety like Nate and the way this is explained is very cool. I love the connection between Nate and Lynn, they're just... the definition of a great couple. I love the interactions between them and their daughters, is wonderful.

This is my honest and unbiased review in exchange for the ARC I received. Thanks Jessica!
Jessica, you really had me tearing up with the final chapter of Nate and Lynn's story in Defeated Demons! Years later, they’re married with twin daughters—Ann (yep, named after Lynn's sister) and Luna. The kids’ nicknames are adorable, and fatherhood really suits Nate. Wow, Nate, I didn’t know you were a wolf lover like me! 😱 Holger's story was so beautiful, and for 3-year-olds, Ann and Luna are super smart! And the surprise with Oliver and Marta? I’m so happy for them! Honestly, I don’t have much to say except Jessica gave them the perfect ending they deserved. Nate and Lynn have finally defeated their demons. If you haven’t read book 1 and 2 yet, you need to! Your mental health matters so please check TW!
