The Dragon At the Edge of the Map is creeping across the borders of Monique’s life.
“You are inside the borders of Monique country and everything else is outside, standing with the dragons in Terra Incognito.”
Monique knew Rafe was right, that keeping everyone outside her barriers was the safest way to live. If no one got too close, no one could hurt her again. He would never understand why she kept everything and everyone at bay. He could never really understand why she had to protect herself from betrayal.
First her neighbor is murdered and then a stranger. Monique knows the case isn’t a priority for the police; it’s just criminals killing criminals. She knows it’s better to stay away, but something is driving her to investigate.
Vancouver’s jazz scene is the only place where Monique feels safe. Singing makes her remember what it means to be alive. Then the violence comes to the club where she works, and threatens the people she loves. Is solving these murders the only way to put her dragons to rest?
Monique trusts that none of the criminals know she’s investigating, but once again her trust betrays her. Is it too late to let the police do their job?

Perry Wilson is a Canadian author based in Vancouver, BC who has big ideas and an itch to tell stories. Having spent some time on university, a career, and life in general, she returned to writing three years ago and hasn't looked back since (well, maybe a little, but only while parallel parking).
She is a member of the Vancouver Independent Writers Group, and has self-published several novels. The second book of the Charity Deacon series, Greed, is due out in the fall 2012. (A French vacation pulls Charity and her best friend into the shady world of gun smugglers and missing people.)
She also writes the Quinn Larson Quests, which follows the adventures of a wizard named Quinn who must contend with volatile fae in the heart of Vancouver, and the Madeline Journeys, a fantasy series about a high-powered lawyer who finds herself trapped in a magical world. Her previous stand-alone novels are Breaking the Bonds and Closing the Circle.
A story of a woman damaged by an event in her past who is drawn into the underworld of Serbian gangs through the death of a neighbour and her drug addicted brother. When faced with death after ignoring threats she begins to learn to let down her walls a little and to trust those closest to her. The secretive leader however reveals a connection to her dead father. Is he speaking the truth and does it explain why her father did what he did? A gripping read that was hard to put down, although the protagonist was hard to like.
Monique lives in the world of an artist and often creates her own problems with her stubborness. She gets her freinds, lover and others in frantic trouble by being a smartass. This time she almost dies.
Monique Duchesne has lived her life in two halves…the half that happened before and after the murder of her mother followed by her father’s suicide. She makes her living singing in a jazz club at night and leading historical tour groups when not singing. She has issues with trust and relationships and also has a brother who is an addict. After a violent murder takes place in her apartment building her life is turned upside down. She is unable to trust the police to solve the murder so undertakes the task herself. Two more murders, some sleuthing and personal threats along with kidnapping and pain occur before the book ends. This book was a gift to me through LibraryThing’s giveaway program. It is very well written, well developed and interesting. I am not sure I would have been as willing as Monique was to put her life on the line but it did make for fascinating reading.
