I adored this book and was sorry that it came to end , I am looking forward to the next in the series.
Although the characters were supernatural beings they acted very much like normal humans in the realm , but with their hidden secrets.
I won this copy of the book, but the cover is colorful and inviting and I would be drawn to it in a book store.
Very good story!

A spiritual journey of enlightenment that’s uplifting and unforgettable…

The Balance: The Awakening of the Goddesses by Morgan Shores is a profoundly meaningful novel of thought-provoking depth and surrealism. Hypnotized by the beautifully dreamlike storyline, I was swept away of a journey of self-discovery and profundity. This philosophical read blends seamlessly together a compelling fictional story with truthful connotation and an altogether unique perspective; on life. The conglomeration of varying styles from both Dianne Morgan and Tera Rae Shores makes for an eclectic mix, and a refreshingly distinct read like nothing I have encountered before. Taken on a path of discovery into the unknown, I was able to explore both lightness and darkness within myself and draw from this book a sense of fulfilment and empowerment!

“We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.”
- J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Categorized as a fantasy novel {although I would personally regard this as a spiritual book}, “The Balance” series is set within the modern day and follows the lives of two strangers who are inexplicably drawn together. Lilith Nolan and Sophia Moore both discover that they are twin Goddesses, and have been ‘awakened’ to battle a dark Lord of the Demon world! They must unite for ‘the balance’ of light and dark and to save mankind. Reminiscent of The Seeker: The Dark is Rising this extraordinary novel is deftly interwoven amid a mysterious supernatural ambience. The nuance behind every, single, word was haunting and I found that afterwards the story lingered within my mind for a long time.

A legend of two sisters, one the Goddess of Light, one the Goddess of Shadow, separated through time and distance. The story of a betrayal between the soul mate of Goddess of Shadow harming all, twisting all to gain more, even destroying his brother the soul mate the Goddess of Light.
The waiting is over. Lilith Nolan and Sophia Moore have reached their twenty fifth birthdays and they have awakened. So have their soul mates - for good and evil. This is a fight for the balance of the world. So many people, so many light keepers and workers, and so many secrets.
It begins with the reoccurring dream and the introduction of Lilith, a detective on the Galveston Police Force. Something strange is in the air - I am reminded of something wicked this way blows - and soon she is introduced to Sophia. They are brought together a few times and the group they know seems very familiar to each, they both receive a rare amulet passed down in each family as a present as a gift.
At this time Sophia meets and is immediately attracted to Ceron Murray - who has quite a reputation. Shadows and darkness begin to plot and make their moves for time is essential. Some crime scenes are so strange there seems to to immediate cremation of bodies at the scene, bringing Lilith in contact with a Samuel Duffy whom she has a visceral reaction to. All is revealed as the Goddesses are awakened and there is only one that has the power in their hands and has to make the choice - to bring balance back.

I liked this book, I found the tale interesting and the characters well developed. I think I really wanted more - more action, more interactions - but I think I will be getting more with another book in this series. I feel the need to warn some, that like GRRM, Shores does not fear messing with a reader a getting rid of a beloved character, but at least it's not gruesome.

*****This is a First Reads, Thank You Goodreads*****

I didn't really enjoy this book until the last couple of chapters. The storyline was good but until the actual battle, the writing style and characters were rather weak.
It improved greatly towards the end, almost as if the characters were becoming real and believable. Maybe this was intentional, part of the journey from naivety to finding oneself.

I won this book through Goodreads’ giveaways. I believe it’s the first in either a trilogy or series. Knowing nothing about it beforehand, here’s my breakdown:

Plot: I think the idea behind the plot is good. At first, I thought it had to do with reptilians, light workers, the Illuminati, etc. It does have light workers but it verges more on the side of good vs evil in terms of Satan (Samuel) and the light forces. i can see the idea being turned into a movie, but I also felt that it was a bit cliched. There wasn’t anything really original about it that could have given me a wow feeling.

Writing style: This is an iffy thing for me. The book is fast paced, which is a positive for me, but it’s unbalanced. At some parts, it’s extremely fast paced..like it’ll say “They went to have dinner. They left the restaurant.” However, in other parts, like describing Sophia’s home, it was descriptive which kind of threw the flow off. The other thing I didn’t like about it was the way the character’s talked. They mostly spoke in complete sentences which isn’t the case in the real world. It felt stiff and awkward. They ways the gods spoke seemed cliched as well.

The characters: Very little development other than the goddesses awakening. Sophia, Bree, Lilith all seemed to remain mostly the way they are from beginning to end in their human form. Sophia and Lilith seemed a bit stereotypical in the sense that Sophia seemed more feminine, sweet and nice whereas Lilith was the workaholic and more masculine. I had wished there was more substance to them, to make them a little less well-rounded as no one seems to be, but maybe that has to do with them being the goddesses?

The aesthetics of the book: loved the short chapters, font and formatting. Hated the cover. Also, there’s a typo on pg. 168, I believe.

So what was good about it? The book was fast paced, which if the story was better written, could’ve been good. There was shape-shifting, travelling by wind, and supernatural powers involved. I give it a 2.5-3 stars. It has good potential but just doesn’t seem put together just yet.

I won this book from a goodreads giveaway. As it was free, I feel bad leaving a 1 start review, but 1 star is really all this book deserves in my opinion. Maybe I am just too jaded since my usual author choices come highly recommended. Nonetheless, this book is not well written and I had to force myself to finish it. The back story was ill explained and lacked a lot of detail. For example, it was unclear what different worlds were or what they looked like. The entire battle in the shadow realm lacked any place description and was a visual blob in my mind. Additionally, the entire story was an ongoing game of telephone. Every paragraph was a list of chronological events that either did happen or were going to happen. No real emotions were conveyed in this book, even though the word love was used as an adjective hundreds of times. The grammar was sub par. The story line was sub par. The book was sub par.

I won a copy from Goodreads First Reads.

I'm sorry, but I just can't get absorbed into this book. There isn't any spark or feeling here... No life. It isn't very enthusiastic. I didn't notice any grammar errors, but the beginning just failed to get my attention. I tried getting into the book five times, but I always go...

Ugh. I don't want to read this.

Sorry. It was just too boring and not my piece of cake. Plus, there is way too much information to absorb. And for the second thing, I want to ask: What myth are you focusing on? Greek mythology? Christianity?

Judaism?

I won this book through first reads - and I'm so glad that I did!!

I wasn't sure quite what to expect from this book, but it was both real and fantastical at the same time. The characters were enjoyable as well as their special abilities. I won't go into detail about the plot - you can read that only so many times. But, I will say that it was a quick and delightful read, fantastical and real at the same time. I look forward to the next book in the series.

The book was a quick read. I thought that the characters could use some more development I never really felt that I connected with them that much throughout the book. The book also jumped around a lot and there was a lot of repetition from chapter to chapter. The story idea was a good one but other than that I didn't particularly enjoy the book.

I started reading this story with interest but the lackluster style of the author's writing and mastery of language quickly doused my enjoyment.
