This book is about Sitting Bull's life. It was a good book because he had an awesome life, but a lot of it was just describing some battle or event and saying Sitting Bull was probably there. Since the Sioux have no written language, we have to rely on his winter count. This is a picture on a peice of buffalo skin of what they remember the year by. The only other thing is reputation, which Sitting Bull had a lot of.

My favorite part of this book was around the time of the Custer fight, in Sitting Bull's prime. This was when he smoked his pipe in front of an entire company of army regulars for a while then calmly walked away. The book also illustrates that if the Sioux had one lawyer among them, they could have easily sued the government for a TON because of murder, violating treaties, and just lying.

A good recounting of the Plains Indians v. Americans conflict, but BARELY about Sitting Bull at all. If you are looking for Sitting Bull, you'll barely find him here.
