Surrender

Rate this book
Kate Sorentella loves everything about her fiance Barry...everything, that is, except their lackluster, unimaginative sex life.

After a few too many unfulfilling nights, Kate can’t help but fantasize about her own version of neighborly relations with Jack, the sizzling hot guy next door.

But when her husband-to-be leaves on yet another business trip, Kate learns that boring Barry has been keeping a few kinky secrets. Shocked, confused--and aroused--Kate delves into the erotic world of BDSM. Will her illicit discovery mean better times in bed with Barry or will it drive her into Jack’s arms? In this third installment of the Entwined series, Kate might do both, and then some.

Through provocative BDSM, voyeurism, online play and same-sex/multiple partnerships, readers can whet their appetite with one, two or all four of Kate’s erotic fantasies. Dive in and experience the desire, heat and awakening that comes with surrender.

The series is supported by a robust, interactive community site (www.entwinederotica.com) which includes elements of fan fiction, contests, and voting. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead. Choose your own happy ending, and get Entwined. Again. And again.

I have been a huge fan of the Entwined Erotica Series since it debuted and was more than thrilled to get the chance to read the ARC of Surrender.

The premise behind this series is that the opening chapter is written by one author and then each pathway is written by a different author. You basically get to read four stories for the price of one!

In this volume of Entwined, the main character Kate is bored by her husband's idea of sex and finds herself getting more and more turned on by her hunky neighbor Jack. Then she discovers that her hubby has, in his "own" way, cheated on her. This is the point of the book where things get really fun, because as a reader I got the opportunity to choose Kate's path. I read all of the pathways, and let me tell you, the choices will take you for a ride! There is a little bit of everything including: dominance, voyeurism, romantic online sexting, and a very HOT orgy. Did I mention HOT???

I found each pathway brilliantly written and would highly recommend this book and entire series to anyone who enjoys reading erotica.

Choose your own ending erotic stories seem to be on the rise. This is the third one in the past year coming across my desk. While some provide alternate endings, others provide different choices to try all sorts of sexy adventures. Even though I didn't enjoy choose your own adventure books as a kid, there is something very appealing about selecting my own erotic fantasies as an adult. Personally, I hope this trend of books continues. In Surrender, this choose your own adventure is a bit different than I'm used to reading. Instead of one author, there are several authors and they write completely different endings which do not intersect with any of the others. This mutual exclusivity makes this book a bit less connected for me. If there were crossovers, the blending of the combinations would appeal to me more and increase the complexity of the overall story choices. Creating possibilities where authors need to finish off from another author's beginning and then passing the torch to a third before returning to the first author could be a very interesting product. Would the authors be able to blend it well enough it becomes a cohesive kinky maze? I can think of two authors from one specific publishing company who could pull it off. I digress.

Since I am a control freak, it is mandatory I read all four endings. Each one touched a different type of fantasy. Since I enjoy all sorts of sexual combinations as well as domination, from a kinky perspective, each of these stories is smoking hawt. My personal issue which is a personal preference is the amount of cheating in this book. If you don't like even the hint of cheating, this story will not be for you. Three of these involve infidelity which later on turns out okay, but for me, it taints the overall rating. It doesn't matter that one of the themes is cuckolding. I happen to love cuckolding stories. When it comes to dishonesty in a contemporary romance it is a problem for me. Specifically, infidelity as a conflict or sub-theme rubs me the wrong way. If it were the main plot of the story, then I tend to deal with it better. Had I known this book included cheating, I would have passed on the offer to review it.

I did enjoy every single one of the outcomes. They were fun, erotic and the sex is good. The BDSM is also pretty accurate so it flowed smoothly. The different combinations between maledom, femdom and m/m, m/f and ménage are all delicious. I did read the endings in the order of my sexual desires.

"The Making of Mistress Kate" by Lori Perkins is just as a reader expects. Kate finds out about Barry's dirty secret whilst on his computer. As anyone knows, snooping will generally reveal information with a high probability to result in pain. What Kate learns infuriates her and Barry learns just how much he should have trusted Kate. This is a pretty easy newbie femdom story and it's quite sweet. There are a couple of situations which generated a furious response in me and I completely empathized with Kate. The ending is a lovely happily ever after.

In "Watching Kat" by Nik Flandre is up next since I do love being a voyeur. With a title like this, how could I resist? While the main characters are Kate and her sexually inadequate fiancé Barry, Jack the neighbor is also featured in quite often. In this one, Barry is also submissive as Jack takes the leading role in a kinky cuckolding. Everyone is happy and the conflict is minimal.

"The Pina Colada Escape" by Jamie K. Schmidt is up next since I'm guessing a beach resort theme. I couldn't be more wrong. This is the one I had the most issues with. I'm conflicted because on one hand it is really very hawt. The sexual play between Kate and Barry is smoking. Between the emails, instant message, sexting, it's all very relevant to current times. On the other hand, it does come across as more tell than show which makes this story not work as well for me. The twist is easily picked up and just pushed my button in a negative manner. I didn't enjoy it.

I confess to saving "Down the Rabbit Hole" by Lissa Trevor last. As an avid fan of Alice in Wonderland because it is written by a man whose sexual interest in underage girls, I always find anything to do with Wonderland a bit taboo and deviant. I'm so glad I saved the best for last. For me, this is my favourite outcome. Between the multiple partners, the club and a hot ménage with m/m action, I'm creaming my panties. Barry is the sexiest and most dominant in this story. On top of this, how his partners submit and how he pulls Kate into his kinky lifestyle is a fantasy come true. This story definitely required a little "alone time" upon its completion. This is the only story where the cheating didn't make me flinch.

Overall, this book will be appealing to erotic readers who want their happily ever after. There is no requirement to read all four endings. For those of us who are greedy switches who also happen to be unicorns, you will end up reading all four and enjoying them all. Recommended for readers who know what they like and take their sexuality into their own hands.

Surrender (Entwined #3) by Nik Flandre, Lori Perkins, Jamie K. Schmidt, Lissa Trevor

The format for this book is really nice, it has a main story that sets up the situation, then allows the reader to end the novella with one of 4 endings, each ending written by a different author in the discipline they are best at. So the overall book is like having 4 novellas all together – you can read them all now or read them as you wish. A very nice and a different approach to a story IMO.

I read two of the 4 endings in this book so my comments address the book as read.

First off, as with many a novella, there is very little character development, world building, or setting of the stage so to speak – and that is very true with this book. The two stories I read had three primary characters – Kate and Barry our engaged couple and Jack, Kate's neighbor.

We know very little about them other then Barry travels for his work, he’s not the best in the sack , he has some kinks that he enjoys, and he loves Kate and wants their relationship to succeed.

Kate, she a journalist, wants more from her sex life with Barry, loves him and is willing to settle in the relationship because Barry is a nice, sweet, kind guy who takes care of her!

Jack’s character is used as the fulcrum, to provide the spice, or the motivation for Barry to act out his kink, enhancing his relationship with Kate. We basically know that Jack is a healthy well put together man, who enjoys sex.

What I didn’t get from the book was any connection, chemistry, or emotional feelings between any of the characters. There was little romance, no angst, need, desire or longing, and the sex scenes were mechanical, tame and boring. I had a hard time becoming vested in the characters and their story. I thought Barry was wimpy and had a hard time when he wanted to take on the alpha / dom roll with Kate, it just wasn’t believable for me.

One thing I did like was the humor and the use of sexual innuendo (many times a selected word was chosen to work in the sentence as well as it being suggestive of a possible sexual situation).

So I love the books concept, but wish there had been more character development, connection between the characters and far hotter sex scenes between characters (even if it was only one well written HOT scene). I like to imagine my characters as real people, and want to believe in them.

I want to thank the authors (all four of them) and the publisher Coliloquy, LLC for this copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Expected publication: February 13th 2014

My usual style of reviewing won't work for this book because of it's uniqueness. I don't know if you remember The Choose Your Own Adventure Books or not but I do. I had the most fun reading these types of books because you never knew what was going to happen based on your choices that you made. This book is very reminiscent of those books. I admit that I was skeptical at first then thought what the hell go for it. Boy am I glad that I did. The unexpected nature of this book was fun and inventive in ways that hearken the my childhood with more of an adult flavor in mind.

I applaud the author for being daring and innovative to make reading truly fun and exciting again. I would definitely love to read more books like this in the future. I love the unexpected aspect of reading this book because my decisions or choices created a whole new story before my eyes! I also read through the other two choices. I had to know what the other choices would bring to my reading adventure. I look forward to more books like this in the future.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an intriguing concept for an erotic novel. I remember reading the "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories growing up so I figured this should be a very interesting story. You get the basic information at the beginning of the book (the main characters), and once you get past the first chapter, you get to choose one of four stories written by the contributing authors, so it's like getting four novellas in one. One drawback is there is little in the way of character development; I didn't really connect with any of the characters, so it was hard to really get invested in the stories, but other than that it was a fun way to pass the time. I'd not read anything by the contributing authors before, so that was a new experience for me, just to see how four people could take a basic plot and make it their own. I'll more than likely go back and read the first two books in the series.

Choose your own… erotica?

“Surrender” is the third volume of the Entwined choose-your-own-adventure, or rather, choose-your-own-erotica, ebook series. Each volume centers on a set cast of characters, but lets the reader choose how the story and the sex play out. “Surrender” introduces you to this volume’s main characters: the engaged couple of Kate and Barry, and their neighbor Jack. As with any well-structured story, you have the setting, the mood, and the rising action; but, you chose the climax.

Would you like M/F, M/F/M, BDSM? M/F, BDSM? M/F, M/F/M/F, Multiple Partner, BDSM? Or perhaps just M/F, Multiple partner, BDSM? Yes, the choices seem endless. Each “journey”, as the options are called, has a separate author and title. I choose to start with the M/F, BDSM journey written by Jamie K. Schmidt entitled, “The Pina Colada Express”.

First, kudos to whoever wrote the first chapter. My emotional investment in the characters began before I even started my chosen journey. I already cared about Kate and Barry, and where their relationship was going within the first few pages. Perhaps, because I read so many series these days, I forget how an emotional connection with an audience doesn’t have to take a book or two, but can be established both quickly and well in a single volume.

Each author builds on this initial introduction in their own way. Yes, each story is highly erotic and (mostly) well-written; but, be forewarned: if kink isn’t your thing (i.e., BDSM, male-on-female-on-male-on-female, voyeurism), then you will not enjoy these stories.

Special review to my first adventure (aka Why I Rate this Book 4 Stars):
I usually don’t use the word “sweet” to describe BDSM erotica, but that’s exactly what “The Pina Colada Express” is. It had me laughing, blushing, turned on, and learning right along with the characters. Seriously. I googled. In fact, I loved it so much that I first wrote this review before I read the other adventures – worried that the “Kate” and “Barry” of the other adventures would pale in comparison. I’m happy I waited because each adventure is definitely singular, and should be given a chance to stand on its own.

“Surrender” truly provides the reader with four different novels. Each adventure has a different tone, feel, characterization, and relationship. If you like your erotica somewhere on the scale between romantic and revengeful, then you’ll enjoy one of these adventures. Plus, if you’re even a bit curious about other sexual combinations in your reading (I’d never read M/F, M/F/M/F, Multiple Partner, BDSM erotica), “Surrender” offers you the chance to test the other genres.

Review Summary: Well written erotic, each with a bit of kink. Buy one choose-your-own-erotica, get four different novels to wet your appetite.

Oh, right. Disclaimer: I was given an ARC by the author in exchange for writing an honest review. I read a book, and judged it. Scandal!

Choose your own adventure stories are somewhat of a passion of mine and I have enjoyed them since I was a child. In this case, the adventure is of the very adult kind. Kate and Barry are an engaged couple and you get to choose the adventure they are about to embark upon. You have four choices to pick from. In doing so, you have a novella sized length that is very agreeable to busy women who want what they want when they want it.

My choice was the story from Lori Perkins where Kate finds out Barry has a bit of a secret online life without her. To put it bluntly, Kate is pissed. How dare he step out in a chat room? Digging deeper, she finds out enough to send her to a BDSM shop and signs herself up for a class on becoming a Domme. It moves very fast at this point and could have been a bit more developed, but the scenario was a whole lot of fun and I embraced it. Getting her goody bag together, she goes home and waits for Barry, enlisting the help of her uber sexy next door neighbor.

I liked Kate but Barry was a weak character that didn't inspire me at all. I like Femme dom stories, but in this case I wanted her to just give him a butt whipping and take up with the sexy neighbor. Barry. Blech. Did not do it for me. Jack had it going on and I was disappointed that they didn't end up together in this particular scenario.

One other scenario I toyed with was Kate finding out about Barry's secret and him becoming the Dom. Nope. It didn't feel right to me and I didn't even want to read further.

In a nutshell, I like the erotic premise but wanted more of a manly man from Berry. Kate was great but Barry needed to be a more likable or at least a magnetic character that inspired something other than irritation.

This is a great series and I hope to see it grow. Choose your own adventures are a whole lot of fun and I love that you can choose what is going to happen. Especially when the woman is holding the power.

Lucee Lovett Review of Entwined Volume 3 ‘Surrender’

Surrender the third book of the Entwined series really delivered what I have come to expect from this collaborative piece of fiction. If you are new to the Entwined Series. These books are interactive short stories that lead on from an initial opening chapter. Four talented authors each write their own version of the story to its conclusion. The reader than chooses which pathway/author they wish to read first. Surrender begins with a couple who sex life is Vanilla at best. The MC Kate discovers her fiancé Barry, is leading a double life. When she find out that, he is a member of an adult social media chat room. Kate undergoes some serious self-reflection as well as self-revelation throughout each pathway. Each pathway is varied but extremely hot. You’re taken on Kate’s Journey in learning her own sexual needs and desires. Her strengths and weaknesses. You’re drawn into Barry’s world and what it is he needs to turn him on. Through each pathway, you experience Kate’s struggle to surrender to Barry secret sexual way of life. Every story filled with high tension and eroticism. I enjoyed each story immensely. A must read for anyone who wants to experience something different. Well done. You’ve produced yet another collage of stories filled with love, lust and learning. I’m giving Surrender 5 stars.

I was give this book by the authors for a honest review.

This is the first and so far only "chose your story/ending" I have read and while I like the idea of having a couple of stories with one book, this one fell a little flat for me. At this time I have only read one of the options as the other three did not appeal to me.

We don't know enough about the characters to get any connection, there was no spark or chemistry and honestly I found the sex scenes to be dull and unemotional....I know with novellas it is hard to pull off the chemistry and great sex, but it can be done, I have read a few. I want to be pulled into the story, I want a connection to the characters, a reason to continue reading to find out what happens next.....I did not get that from this

The story I read was M/F & M/F/M.....when I see M/F/M I expect ménage which this did not really have.....she was occasionally having sex with her fiancé but the she also started having sex with the neighbor and only at the very end was the fiancé present to watch....to me not really ménage.

At this point I'm not invested enough in the characters to try out the other three stories but may try at a later date.

The book was provided by the Authors/Publisher for an honest review.

“Watching Kate by Nik Flandre (M/F, M/FM, BDSM)
Wow... again brava, on the interaction with the reader. Ive read the first two in this series and this one lives up to same awesome talent!.
Barry – a man that knows he isnt fullfilling his finace's needs in the bedroom. But there is no way, he can tell her his own fantasies. Teh fantasies that make him “Rise” to the occasion.
Jack – A single walking sex on a stick neighbor, casting his hot glances toward Barry's wife. Jack will push the bounderies of normal, dropping induendoes and flirting. Everything but coming out right and say I want to.... well you get what Im saying..(smiles).
Kate – more often than not she is left having to please herself, after her fiancee and her are done in bed. But she loves Barry so she will accept life as it is. Spotting the smoking hot next door neighbor, as her mind thinking of things best left alone.

Barry asks his fiancee to get something he needed off his computer and when Kate does, she looks through other files that were there. In doing so … her world is about to change but for the good? Will they all be taking the next step or too much risk in losing what they have?

This book really made my day (and night) and my husband found it as interesting as I did. If you like your sex kinky, I can't recommend this one enough!

The best thing about it is the four different endings... if you don't care for one, hey, there are more options. Of the four stories, I found Nik Flandre's "Watching Kate" and Jamie K. Schmidt's "Pina Colada Escape" hottest. All four stories are really well written, but those two have the most relateable characters. That's really important to me... if I can't identify with at least one character (male or female), I just can't get into the story. Nik and Jamie's takes on Kate, Barry, and Jack feel like real people, people who are enthusiastic about their personal kinks and understanding of each other's needs. That's particularly rare in the sort of Dom/sub story Jamie chose to tell, and I found it refreshing.

And hot, too. Like I said, unless you're just too vanilla to appreciate it, you'll like this one!

I was given this book for an honest review. Each ending in this choice your own ending story was hot! Barry and Kate are engaged and bored in the bedroom. Barry is on yet another out of town business trip and he needs Kate to send him a file from his home computer. Kate comes across a file marked classified and decides to snoop. She can't believe what she finds, Barry has been talking about her in an adult chat room. At this point you get to choice the ending of the story. You can choice Barry watching Kate with Jack their sexy neighbor, Master / Slave email kink, mutliple partners, there is something for every taste. I really enjoyed this, the sex was hot and the story was good.
