As someone who is currently in the grips of peri-menopause, I just had to grab this book.

This was jam-packed with hints and tips on how both partners can handle the changes in the relationship - but most importantly there was a lot of invaluable information to help explain the changes within the body at this time.

The book was split into 9 sections, for example - What is Menopause, Perceptions, Night and Day and Intimacy - and each section is written by both Kate, with her experience and tips and also Neil, with his viewpoint too.

I loved Kate's writing style which felt very chatty - as though I was sitting around with friends discussing our own thoughts and feelings.
Neil's style I didn't connect with as much - but I don't think this is a bad thing!
The whole point of having the male viewpoint was so that partners can also read what we're reading, learn the same things as us and in a way that they can relate to.
Such a great idea!

I found a lot of the information here extremely useful and I liked the format of each section which gave information first and followed with a potential plan to overcome each issue faced and with reasons why this might help.

Some of the information was about things that I've already experienced, but hadn't realised were related or hadn't known why they were happening and this provided such a great clarity.
Some of the symptoms I'm going through now, although I knew were connected, seeing that others also experienced them and seeing it written here gave me some peace to know that this was still completely normal and acceptable.

I am yet to get my husband to read this - not because he won't - but because he's not a great reader and we'd never have both got it finished in time for this review.
But we've talked things through and he's keen to get reading now I've finished!

I think that this book should be read by everyone - even if you're not in a committed relationship.
This really would benefit everyone and help with understanding by both men and women in all kinds of acquaintances, friendships and relationships with women experiencing menopause symptoms.
I've even been pointing out sections to my sons too so they can fully appreciate my own and any future experiences!

Here is my review for A Couple’s Guide To Menopause by Neil and Kate Usher

This was quite an interesting read as it covers what the menopause is and what the symptoms are. It was quite interesting what some of the symptoms were and that some of them, put together could be linked to other conditions as well. Also, what ages the menopause would roughly cover. How to chat to your partner about things and what topics to cover. How to be intimate and what to use for dryness. When to think about going for HRT. About the possible effect of the menopause on your relationship. This was a really good guide and I found it interesting and helpful. It covered good topics and it was helpful that Kate Usher had been through the menopause so had a good idea what to expect when she and her partner, Neil, wrote the book.

I think this book would be a great help and understanding to the menopause for anyone. The book is set out into chapters, from explaining What Is the Menopause? Perceptions, Talking, Expectations, Lifestyle, Moods, Night and Day, Intimacy and Second Phase.
Throughout the book we are told Kate's Perceptions and Action Plan, also Neil's Perceptions and Action Plan. I found the book interesting to read, some of the symptoms I didn't even know were linked...Problems with Eyesight and Tinnitus. I did think the part about talking to your partner, after all they are going through it as well, just in a different way. As Kate has been through the menopause she could share her experiences with us, as well as Neil's experiences.
I've been lucky as I'm now 58 years old and never went through anything.
