Mike Reid was born in East London in 1940 and began "ducking and diving" to earn money almost as soon as he could walk. For years he managed to avoid a police record until he was caught red-handed robbing a country mansion. This is his uncensored story, told with his signature wit and wisdom.
Highly entertaining & obviously not ghost written. Every sentence oozes cockney geezer, showing that his EastEnders character Frank Butcher was pretty much Mike Reid by a different name. Chock full of colloquial language and phrases, although he does repeat some (to be honest) it's easy to hear his voice in your head. Maybe not the world's greatest actor or stand-up comic (the expression so-bad-it's-good applies) but a real genuine character who will be missed.
A wonderful, insightful book, full of every emotion you could think of. Mike was such a character, and this book portrays that so well. Such a shame his life ended before he could achieve the things he wanted to achieve in the last pages of his book. At least he had a good life though, and is at peace now with his loved ones.
