Many people begin a new year with a commitment to read the Bible through in 365 days. These intentions are good, but the reading plan they choose may not be the most effective one for reaching the goal.Every Day with Jesus Daily Bible manages to overcome many difficulties of reading the Bible straight through in a year. From day one, the plan provides rich variety in the readings. Each day includes a selection • The Old Testament• The New Testament• Psalms• Proverbs There's also a devotion from beloved pastor Selwyn Hughes that is linked to one of the four readings for the day. Those who follow this plan will read the entire Bible in a year. Reading the four different Scripture portions each day has the benefit of introducing many readers to passages they have never explored. And this is done in a context where encountering the four different Scripture selections together at the same time will yield new insights into God’s Word.
Selwyn Hughes was a Welsh Christian minister best known for writing the daily devotional Every Day with Jesus. He founded the Christian ministry CWR and wrote over fifty Christian books. George Carey, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, described Hughes as a "giant in the faith".
There are many Bible reading plans but what I love is how the Psalms and Proverbs are built into daily reading along with a beautiful devotion provided by Pastor Selwyn Hughes. It's an excellent way to start your new year reading of the Bible. I look forward to reading through it again!
2017 First read of this version His Word is wonderful, and this format of reading Old Testament, Psalm, Proverb, New Testament each day helped me read the Bible in one year. (I had tried a few years ago to read it chronologically and gave up in March when I was mired in Numbers.) This format worked beautifully for me. Selwyn Hughes’ daily devotion and prayer after each reading were insightful and inspiring. He’s not soft on the church or its people. He’s calling us out with God’s Word. I enjoyed so many of his devotions and prayers. I’ll do it all again in a year or so.
2025 Reread of this version Again, His Word is wonderful and can be trusted. It was interesting to see what I had marked in 2017, and what I marked this year. The first chapters of the Old Testament are fascinating in their urgency and excitement. I will always love the searching ache of the Psalms with sure hope God will prevail over our worldly fascination.
A great, fresh way to read through the Bible in a year! I liked the translation - it was a little bit different than what I'm used to - and loved how reading the OT and NT each day, with Psalms and Proverbs sprinkled in, really opened up the cohesiveness of the Word to me. Hughes' devotionals always brought an interesting perspective to a particular passage and usually focused on a verse I may not have paid much attention to in the first place. Highly recommended.
For better understanding of The Bible: you have to keep reading and rereading it. Reading this daily Bible I like the commentaries so much that I just started the second edition of it ,love it, and highly recommend it
Excellent version of the Bible, with thoughtful and inspiring daily devotions. I gave it a 4 rating only because of formatting issues. There are numerous places where the words run together.
This is a great book to read the Bible through in one year. I like the breakdown from Old Testament, Psalms, Proverbs and New Testament everyday. I especially also enjoyed the short devotional that accompanied it.
3 stars because this is definitely not my favorite translation of the bible. Lifeway seems to push this translation in its stores. I liked the overall layout of the book. The next time I read the bible in a year I will use the NLT.
