Eros is the passionate energy that makes us one with the beautiful other, with a leper, with the world of nature waiting tobe embraced and cared for, with our neighbor, the stranger, with God. The Whiteheads explore this vital energy of love as the gift of aCreator madly in love with his creation a God who would bring us tolife in abundance if we only say Yes. They discuss Eros inthe movements of our sexuality, as well as in our arousals ofcompassion and care. They examine the Eros of pleasure and ofgenerosity. They honor the Eros of hope, of anger, of suffering. Theyreveal that Eros has a Source far deeper than lust, and is a pathway toa passionate God. Holy Eros recovers this fundamental energyof love as a powerful resource in the revitalization of Christianspirituality. Unlike most books on the topic it eschews easy clichs. Its reader benefit is to understand and appreciate an energy that canheal as well as hinder and to tap into its positive force.
This was a complicated book to rate. It is the appropriation of Eros dragged through Christian Mythology, but it held a lot of value for that community and the recognition of Eros. Christianity is very much Disney in the sense of "sure it existed beforehand, but we made it popular" Like Snow White or the Little Mermaid.
Still, the authors did a remarkable job exploring Eros they called the Christian Holy Spirit. They also referenced a lot of sociologists in their study and did their best at teaching Christians that may pick up this book that connection and sex are not evil.
All in all, it greatly benefited my research to recognize Eros and Holy Love
