Si l'on s'en rapportait La Beaumelle que tous les biographes ont c0pie' jusque dans ces dernières années, la famille d'aubigne' était d'une noblesse, sinon fort illustre, au moins très ancienne. Les documents cités par l'historien de Mme de Maintenon la font dater non pas précisément du temps des Romains, comme le dit une généalogie en vers, mais seulement du xiie siècle; c'était déjà remonter assez loin, et pourtant, sans Agrippa et sa petite - fille Françoise, elle n'aurait pas.laissé de trace dans l'histoire.
