Parents with a dyslexic child have only had professional references to turn to for much-needed advice?until now. The first guide written expressly for parents, Dyslexia: A Complete Guide for Parents provides the unique insights of a noted educational psychologist on what sort of supportive role parents can play in the life of their dyslexic child. The book includes a description of dyslexia, how it's identified and assessed, examples of different approaches parents can adopt, and a range of useful resources.
A good book for those in the diagnosis stages, lots of advice on school systems, employment and disability law. Lacking in practical suggestions for help at home in my opinion.
It’s a good book that covers a lot of different aspects such as advocacy and alternate learning styles. It’s written for the general population so I skimmed over the normal terms associated with therapy. Chapters range from Identification, parental support, and legislation in several countries. The last chapter has sources for literacy games, programs, computer programs and organizations complete with addresses and websites.
Lots of information, but I felt overwhelmed and depressed by the end. Maybe as I read other dylsexia books I'll understand and change my opinion on this one.
