I first met Bob while he was zipping around the hallways of Simons Hall on the SJU campus for his first semester as a professor. I was immediately drawn to his sharp wit and the zeal with which he seemed to live each day. I was fortunate enough to get to know him well and always looked forward to the 10 minutes or so I would spend catching up in his office each day before 'getting to work'.

Ever since Bob mentioned he was working on a book, I have been eagerly awaiting its arrival at my front door. That day finally came Friday afternoon and I had devoured the entire thing by mid-day Saturday. Similar to his in-class lectures, the book is filled with honesty, wit, and pearls of wisdom to help the reader gain perspective and overcome whatever challenges they may be facing in life. Bob speaks eloquently of the adversities he has personally faced and the power of perspective and family in overcoming whatever life may throw at you.

He continues to serve as a personal inspiration and I will be sure to keep this book close to be read again and again. I would give the book my highest recommendation and think it should be required reading for anyone facing adversity in their life - no matter how seemingly big or small.

This book was of particular interest to me because of the setting. The author writes about coming to MN and attending school at SJU, and the accident that changed his life forever. One of his MDs was someone I knew growing up, so that was a neat connection. His writing style, however, was a bit too casual for me. It made for a quick read, but kind of grew irritating. For example, to emphasize the way his mother spoke, he wrote out all of her dialogue phonetically, ALL of it! At any rate, a good book with some great life lessons.

The Author was one of my son's professor's and someone he finds very inspirational - that's what lead me to this book. After reading it I have to agree - this man who became a quadriplegic at 19 due to a freak accident - he has multiple degrees and has traveled the World. Reading this book reminds you that you have no excuses for not attempting everything.
