Rate this book
On a train headed west, the lovely nineteen year old girl from New York fell in love with the dashing, decorated,Civil War General. William Palmer knew immediately that this young woman, called Queen, was the partner that would fulfill his life and nurture his ambition and drive. Their courtship was a long distance one, culminating in their wedding and European honeymoon. Together William and Queen built their home in a Colorado mountain glen and named it after the eagles that nested there, Glen Eyrie. It became the showplace that William envisioned with Queen the charming hostess. Three daughters completed the little family. Colorado Springs blossomed from a dusty, desolate camp to a flourishing town under Palmer's guidance. General Palmer was on his way to becoming a millionaire. Queen's serious heart condition changed their world. Unable to live at the high altitude Queen sought a more moderate climate, living the last ten years of her life in England. This is her story. Many previously unpublished photos from family albums are included.
