George Allen Hutt (1901 - 1973) was a journalist, Marxist social historian, and authority on newspaper typography and design. He was the chief sub-editor on the Communist newspaper The Daily Worker for 24 years until 1966; member of the National Union of Journalists from 1926 until his death; and author of Newspaper Design (1960; 2nd ed. 1967) and The Changing Newspaper (1973). Hutt was a consultant on matters of design to many national and provincial newspapers. He was made a Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) in 1970.
