Another girl might have been thrilled to be part of a "Cinderella story," but not -19-year-old Jan Parker. Her Uncle Luke had come home after years of wandering with "more money than sense," in Jan's opinion, and moved her family into a mansion on Skyline Drive. Jan hated it. She hated the greed and the social-climbing set loose in her widowed mother and the twins, Debbie and Dwayne, older than Jan and her mother's favorites because they had her blond, blue-eyed good looks. Never really close to them, Jan felt more estranged than ever because of the money. But there was another "outcast" -- Uncle Luke, already beginning to regret what he had wrought. Drawn together by mutual loneliness, the old man and young girl formed an odd alliance. Through Luke, Jan met the Harrows and their son, young Doctor John, and discovered at last what it meant to be wanted and loved -- truly loved -- a discovery that was suddenly threatened by the golden money trap her Uncle Luke had so carelessly spun.
