Showdown of the Gods
"Showdown of the The evening news won't surprise old Zechariah" focuses on the three major challenges for global supremacy in a less than stable world. It exposes the desterioration of world leadership and looks behind the "democratic process" long corrupted by wealth and power. Victor Schlatter's purpose is to awaken God's people to the situation today and propose a plan of action.

Given this by someone who thought I might be interested--an "occupational hazard" of my "other job." It was an interesting subject--how current day (written in 2001) events may fit into biblical end-times prophecy. And it refreshingly didn't insist upon too close a fit but rather encouraged a watchfulness as the "day approaches." That said, the prose was unnecessarily thick--almost indecipherable at times--in an evident attempt at humor. Unfortunately, it struck me as an attempt at erudition that was not easily discover-able, at least by me. I'm sure some might find it novel but it was hard for me to absorb the message, so stuck was I trying to unravel the needlessly cryptic and convoluted phrasing.

The title really sucked me in, but overall the book didn't really offer as much as I was hoping. He tries really hard to be funny, but the flow of the grammar is often awkward because of this. He seems to see the three main groups clearly, but after that the insight seemed rather elementary for a lot of the book. In the end though, I highlighted quite a few good parts.
