ON PRAGMATISM discusses the main figures and central issues of the pragmatist movement in American philosophy, helping you understand and identify key ideas so that you can easily succeed in this course. ON PRAGMATISM shows both the unity that shapes the movement and the differences between the individual thinkers, with special attention to their views on meaning, truth, and inquiry.
De Waal's slight book doesn't offer any particularly new insight, and heavily favors classical pragmatism over the more interesting directions of the neopragmatists, but it's still a nice little overview of the school.
This is a nice supplement to a college course in pragmatism, or a broader self study. I would recommend this as a complementary resource, but not as an introductory text or as a stand alone read. I found the chapters on logical positivism and Susan Haack to be the most valuable for my purposes.
