“When the Apostle comes I”ll ask him for a blessing and then I will be able to walk.” The words first came from a child, who along with his family, Richard Tolman once taught as a missionary in Brasil. The child had been unable to walk since birth, but Tolman, now professor of Biology at BYU decided to tell Harold B. Lee, who was visiting Brasil, of the child”s desire. “Faith like that does not go unrewarded,” Lee told the missionary. He later blessed the child, and the child regained the ability to walk. This story is typical of those gleaned from the book Harold B. Remembering the Miracles, currently being republished by Covenant books.
"During his lifetime, President Harold B. Lee received numerous letters from Latter-day Saints describing miracles they had experienced as well as the miraculous results from his labors amongst them. These letters he placed in his "Miracle file" as evidence of God's goodness in rewarding faith. After his death, this file was opened and found to contain stories of countless lives changed for better."
Very moving, insightful book. It is also very hard to come by!
L. Brent Goates, son-in-law of President Harold B. Lee, has compiled many of the stories of miracles shared by the recipients of those miracles and sent in letters to President Lee. It also includes the story President Lee tells of a priesthood blessing he received from an unseen personage while he was ill and returning from New York City by air.
I needed to read this book, taken from accounts of miracles involving Harold B. Lee collected over a lifetime. I needed a healing, and I especially needed the hope of faith that this book represents. These accounts aren't as dramatic as many miracle accounts, which make these accounts more trustworthy and real.
Great, easy to read little collection of inspiring experiences that strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ and the restoration of his Church and His priesthood.
