I picked this up in an unassuming secondhand bookstore in London. It gave me insight into the public vs state school system in Britain, as well as some of the challenges headmasters face. A fair lesson into politics, and whilst I identified with the contradictions/ambiguities Rae admitted about his personality, I still felt the book lacked emotional depth or a more honest account of his failings and motivations. Still, something can be said about people who stand firm under public scrutiny and their honesty in admitting an autocratic character.
