Lord of the Forest is a very large children's picture book about a tiger who goes looking for the lord of the forest and is written in a poetic style.

The book has some amazing artwork within and children can follow Tiger's tale easily, though there is quite a lot of text so this isn't something for new readers to read alone, more to share with an adult.

I enjoyed Tiger's story and the descriptive language used throughout. For animal loving children, this book will hit the mark and help them learn a lot about tigers.

A children's picture book, the splendid illustrations took a charming story from 3 stars to 4. Good, possibly great book for a young reader fond of tigers and both young and old will enjoy Pitcher's gorgeous artwork.

This book is rich in literary devices for both ks1 and lower ks2. It also incorporates the theme of self-belief which is a positive message for children.

Descriptive book with detailed pictures which would be perfect for use within ks1 and ks2. The language included uses rhyme and repetition, meaning this book would be good to use when exploring these techniques.

Fantasy Picture book (Personified tigers in modern forest in India)
K-6 (upper grades used as literature connection for science and mentor text)

First, I am a tiger freak. But this book really is a great example of gorgeous artwork illustrating a solid realistic view of the natural world. The fantasy aspect is only because the young tiger cub is told by its mother that one day it will meet the Lord of the Forest, and the reader follows the growing tiger through the forest and the years until he realizes that HE is the Lord of the Forest. Along the way, we encounter the ecosystem of the forest in which the tiger lives, including the other animals and the habitat typical of the region.

It is a good mentor book for how illustrations add/enrich the text. It is also a great book to use as a science extension when studying ecosystems, as it realistically portrays the natural world of the Bengal tiger in an Indian forest. It does this well enough that the book could be used as the starting point for a student investigation.

I was surprised this book didn't have a big conservation theme. I'm so used to that, especially when it comes to big cats, that seeing a picture book about the majesty of the cat, instead of their danger, was a bit of a shock. And kind of a pleasant one. While conservation is important, constantly throwing that at kids might be a bit overwhelming.

A young tiger cub asks his mother whom the Lord of the Forest is, and she replies enigmatically. He searches for the Lord all his life, until he has his own cubs, and learns the truth.

I wouldn't call these drawing vibrant, but they are evocative. Dark and detailed, and somehow regal. It fits in so well, for a story about the power of the cat.

If your child is obsessed with big cats, this is a good bet for purchase. Otherwise, check it out from your local library, to give it a try before purchase.

A baby tiger is born, and spends the beginning of his growing up on the search for the “lord of the forest”. His mother has told him that when all silence simmers in the trees”, the lord of the forest is on his way. As tiger searches, other animals proclaim that they are the “lord”, but the peacock and rhino are too noisy, and the elephant carries someone on his back. The tiger continues his search, as the author writes “his eyes were worlds of wildness”. It’s a lovely story of anticipation enhanced by full color paintings by Jackie Morris. Young readers will wonder and predict what the end might be.

Probably too young for Logan at this point (age 9), but I'm going through our shelves and pulling out anything we haven't read and this was in the pile. Absolutely gorgeous illustrations and a nice story for a younger kid.
