Brooke Smith is a poet and children's book author. She lives in Bend, Oregon, at the end of a long cinder lane. Brooke writes daily from her studio, looking at the meadow and many of the wild words she cherishes.
Fun story about a girl and her 3 legged dog who rescue a pet rat by using clues and Maty's ( the dog) nose. The Author, Brooke Smith has a daughter who in real life had a 3 legged dog at the Humane society that she worked out as a friend. I enjoyed this story because I knew a 3 legged dog who used to live across the street. Having 3 legs never stopped her from doing what she wanted to be doing. I also had pet rats. Brooke Smith does a nice job describing the logical thinking of a good detective and her dog.
Super cute book. The story is about kids being animal rescuers, and Mimi's dog is even a 3-legged pet from the Humane Society. Good lesson there. Things I liked include how Mimi makes organized lists to steps as well as facts to aid her investigation. There is one part comparing real life to video games (nice touch), and the annoying antagonist is referred to as Icky Vicky - ha!
It's a first chapter book and I believe kids that age would love it.
