Loved the descriptions of the land and travels. Being familiar with the area it was interesting to imagine the area in a very different time. There were times where I (personally) struggled with the viewpoints; that said, it was a much different time. Additionally, I haven’t read too many accounts from this time period so can’t really compare too definitively.
There were some chapters I skimmed through as I wasn’t personally interested in exhaustive details about prices of things or topics such the average rainfall and temperatures…to the degree outlined in the journal, anyway.
Felt like the first couple of chapters were immensely detailed compared to a quick breeze-through of subsequent chapters and topics, though on the whole that makes sense since the beginning chapters were the actual settlement.
A very interesting and informative book about settling in Oregon. Although written some time ago it takes you back to a simple time in our countries history when things weren't so easy. Still then as now there was always someone trying to make money off someone.
