Horton Foote has had a long and critically acclaimed career as a writer of films and plays. Four of his much-heralded works from both on and off Broadway are included in this anthology: "Habitation of Dragons," "Dividing the Estate," "Talking Pictures," and "Night Seasons."
Albert Horton Foote, Jr. was an American playwright and screenwriter, perhaps best known for his Academy Award-winning screenplays for the 1962 film To Kill a Mockingbird and the 1983 film Tender Mercies, and his notable live television dramas during the Golden Age of Television. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1995 for his play The Young Man From Atlanta.
After reading 2 other plays that have been nominated for Best New Play for this year's Tony, this is one that actually deserves to be nominated! Such an easy style of writing with characters that are interesting in their quirkiness but not too quirky that you can't relate to them. A plot that moves! What a concept a play that actually works on all levels. What really chaps my ass is that this play is great and it only received 2 Tony nominations-while 2 other plays (see my reviews of "God of Carnage" and "Reasons to be Pretty") have received a combined 9 nominates! The Tony committee is clearly on something because they got it completely wrong this year!
