Lately, this new take on paranormal stories started to catch fire with quite a few authors. The sleeping beauty revibe was super cool. Even if you aren't a fan of this genre, this story will pique your interest.
📚 It’s something about a black wkman being unconditionally loved, catered to and spoiled for me! I enjoyed this Sleeping Beauty Black Romance Retelling! B. Love said it best when she said “I write for the wayward soul who needs a reason to believe in love again. The strong, independent woman who wants an escape from reality.” That was exactly what this was a cute and short sweet escape from reality. This was what I call my Fairy Tale Fix/ palette cleanser when life seems to get overwhelming.
📓What would you do if you were in love with your brother’s best friend, would you still try to pursue your love connection that you feel, will you run from the opportunity to be loved and have everything you want, will he give up his loyalty for you or choose his brother, will your heart be freely given to another, would you walk away, can true love’s kiss bring you back to reality and the world of the living? If you love fairytales dive into this novella and believe in love again.
This was a cute recreation of the classic fairytale Sleeping Beauty. I loved how Taz was all about Nazii and showed his interest in being her man with the things he was doing for her and it wa cute once they both realized their feelings weren’t unrequited and were reciprocated by each other. I would have liked to see more of them together since most of their time was spent around other people. All in all, though, I enjoyed this short read.
First things first. Every time I read “Nazii”, I thought of Hitler so I started calling her “Naja”. It was hard to remember to type Nazii instead of Naja in this review and I went back to correct the mistake, but if I missed one or something, know who I’m talking about.
“His Sleeping Beauty” follows the classic brother’s best friend trope with a little splash of fairy tale. I say “splash” because the only thing that was reminiscent of a fairy tale was Winifred and Cedrick. Other than that, there wasn’t really anything fairy tale-like. There wasn’t even a happily ever after. Just a happy ending — literally and colloquially lol.
Nazii’s feelings of being unfulfilled in the romantic aspect of her life but fulfilled everywhere else was relatable af. When things started to progress between her and Taz, I was rooting for them. Taz and Nazii were cute enough.
Winifred and Cedrick gave emotional incest, and I frowned every time a chapter was about them. I was ready for Nazii to go to sleep so I wouldn’t have to read about them again.
With this book being so short, and given the tale of Sleeping Beauty, I just knew Naja was going to be sleep for most of the book. Girl, for damn near every chapter in the beginning of the book, I was anticipating her going to sleep. After the 60% mark, I was like “why is she still awake??” Lol.
When Nazii finally went to sleep, homegirl was only down for *maybe* 5 minutes. When I clocked the timeframe, I immediately was like “IKYFL” lol.
In my opinion, this could’ve been a regular brother’s best friend storyline. The Winifred and Cedrick characters didn’t really provide anything except a power nap for Nazii. Taz and Nazii were going to get together regardless.
Two stars because I finished it although I wish I hadn’t…the fairy tale and whole lore of it all was weak and homegirl was sleep for minutes 80% into the book 😭😭 also nazii (sounds like…you know) nas taz why are all these names similar 😩
Once again a dedication has caused me to be excited about going further into a book! I went into this book blindly.
Going into the actual story, Taz and Nazii had me smiling immediately. Her mom too! But Taz was so attentive to Nazii and knowledgeable about her, I loved it. Winifred the Witch? Her mama bear came out with a quickness towards her son's father and I liked it for her. She had that man foaming at the mouth. There is mama bear and then there is the level of love that Winifred had for her little Ceddy Bear. Or his real name, Cedrick. Cedrick went right along with his mama's shenanigans. Where did it get y'all though?? 🤣 Taz was smooth with the knife and I had chills for that and the ending. Forget 'retelling' I have never watched Sleeping Beauty a day in my life but in my opinion, this needs to be the story for Sleeping Beauty.
More of B. Love's work please. I've already started planning.
Now mind you I am not a fan of the OG Sleeping beauty story but I loved this rendition. I am all for fairytails, but making them black. Taz and Nazii relationship was so pure and sweet from jump, you can't help but love them both. As for Ms. Winifred and her delulu as son they really just didn't have a clue, so death to them both...it is what it is. I really enjoyed this short. Def would be into reading a few more like this.
This remake of Sleeping Beauty into a black romance novel was simply amazing. It was everything I wanted and needed and so much more.
The love between Nazii and Taz could be felt from the first chapter. B Love did an amazing job of capturing the essence of the fairy tale and bringing it full circle into a black romance novel. So if Sleeping Beauty was one of your favorite Fairy Tales or you just love fairy tales this book is definitely worth reading!!
This was an interesting spin on an old classic. Forbidden love and obsession were nicely intertwined. I’m glad Nazii and Taz finally gave in to what they felt even if it was being manipulated by Winifred and Cedrick—delusional dummies. You play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
What do you do when you love your best friend’s sister? Well, this was the dilemma that Taz found himself in. He loved Nazii, but didn’t want to disappoint Nas by dating her. There was a hint of paranormal in this book with the introduction of the witch next door. Quite interesting storyline.
Nazii and Taz were crushing on one another for years but because Nas and Taz were such good friends, they never took it there! But with the crazies next door Winifred and Cedrick, they were finally united because of their love! This was a cute quick read! I enjoyed it!
I was almost about to be mad. I had to remind myself if was a remix if a PG story... Nazii and Taz pretended for too long. Taz did too much to not claim what he wanted. Winifred got what she deserved... Ashes to ashes. The end gave me some heat but it felt rushed. in the end it was a good spin.
This was a magical reimagined sleeping beauty tale. I enjoyed the comeuppance for the coven. But I took a point off my rating because it would have enhanced the story more (for me) if Nazii had a worthwhile career or was defined as an artist rather than floundering in life just doing things to escape boredom as everything is handed to her.
But a great read. Along the lines of an insta-love, with the exception that they have always had hidden feelings for each other. It just took courage to acknowledge it. A hint of the paranormal along with sweet romance. Loved it❣️
A sweet rewriting of a fairy tale. The author always delivers a five star read and this is no exception. With different, likeable characters and a spin on sleeping beauty. I enjoyed this read and can't wait to see what this author brings next.
This was a cute lil short read. I loved the development of Taz & Nazii from children. Taz’s attentiveness and care for Nazii was TOP TIER, even from baby Taz days! Cedrick & his mammy were delulu AF and well… not all delusions work in your favor. Cute story!
I loved how Taz treated Nazii. The way he treated her from the beginning was everything. Cedric and his mama were delusional. I think his mama knew the truth, but still tried to give him what he wanted🙄 This was a quick, cute read.
As always, this author gave a wonderful story! I loved the elements of the original story with the modern twist. Even with the fantasy mix I feel like the story was relatable. Where is Taz in real life! Loved it‼️
I was concerned at first reading the introduction. I was hoping it wouldn’t be weird and over the top. Thankfully it wasn’t, but the witch and her crazy son was weird. Other than that good book
This was a good book. I can't believe she done tried to cast a spell on Nazii just so her son can be with someone who didn't love him back. That was weird, but I am glad it turned out the way it did.
I loved this retelling. B. Love did an amazing job combining new school elements with the old school story. I loved the fact that Nazii and Taz got their happy ending!!
Loving the play on fairytales. The witch neighbor and her son hilarious. To think he actually thought he was her true world despite her telling him he wasn't was the icing on the cake.
Loving this series. This one was very short. Not really a problem, and until the very end nothing seemed rushed. Didn’t care for the ‘sleeping beauty’ part of the storyline. Felt like an afterthought. Did appreciate the relationship of the two MCs.
A fun, short read based on Sleeping Beauty. Tax & Nazii are in love with one another, but Taz is Nazii’s brother’s Best Friend. The story is face paced but has a great storyline.
