Mr. Gish, May I Go to the Bathroom?: My First Year As a High School Teacher

Rate this book
The subtitle of the book is, "My First Year As A High School Teacher." I became a high school teacher and coach as a second career, following 12 years as a lawyer. While taking classes towards the teaching certificate, I took the routine classes in psychology and teaching methods. However, my classmates and I were disappointed that we had very little exposure to what a rookie teacher faces day-to-day. My professors agreed that more needed to be offered in that area. This book is an attempt to help fill that void. It is a journal of my first year as a public high school teacher and assistant coach. It is not intended to be intellectual, just as the play-by-play announcing of a basketball game is not intellectual. Like the game, you do learn what happens. Also, there is reflection about options, attempts at solutions, and consequences. There is failure and success.

Amazing! Every prospective teacher should read Steven Gish´s journal reporting on his first year as a high school teacher. A truly refreshing piece of work.
