As seasons pass in Summer Shandy, Jason, once a simple farmer, now stands as a wise father and a leader in his community. His days, rich with the joys of family life and the rhythms of managing his crops, face a new, shadowy challenge. Rumors of an orc wave, a threat from old legends, begin to stir, unsettling the village's peace.
In this time of uncertainty, Jason must balance the demands of his farm and the safety of his loved ones. As he prepares to defend his home, the strength of his family bonds and the lessons learned from the changing seasons will become his greatest allies.
huh, I thought this series was done and perhaps it should have been
Ok, so I did read the first ten in the series. They started to grow stale for me when I noticed around book two that Literally 25% of each book covers one ‘season’ so that each book begins summer day 1 and ends spring day 90. The cyclic nature of the story wasn’t helped by short pretty empty chapters thrown in just to make sure the page count/percentages worked out. This book handwaves three years on the first page because the author originally talked about having sketched out the first 20 books. With the very cyclic and episodic nature of the books I totally believe that there is a spreadsheet somewhere with the major events each quarter up to book 20. The story is stretched so thin to meet these goofy goals of being 4 equal seasons. When combined to a FarmVille Facebook style click game gives almost no depth at all to the game mechanics which make up so much of the core. A lot of gamelit books enjoy clever rule breaking, or at least clever rule bending, but this one _can’t_ because the rules are so simple. The end result is a pretty hollow story, pulled to fit foolish page lengths across a way too simple frame. With no tension at all. We have characters that should danger but we know they will be fine as almost nothing permanently bad happens. Actually as I write that it occurs to me that anything bad that does happen can be fixed like it’s a FarmVille game and you just click to repair and watch counters go down. Read it free thanks to kindle unlimited and I am so glad I didn’t pay for this one.
