Here was my feeling after reading this book: "Just finished the first book. I haven't read a book like that in a while, it's very peculiar. Talk about a literary fiction book! That's the perfect exemple. There is absolutely no plot. I do regret though that characters are not more detailed (except for Eustace). Maybe this will come in the later books..." Then, I started the second book and I didn't enjoy it as much, decided to DNF it. I was not entirely charmed by the plot, the time gap from one book to another made me feel quite detached.
