This second edition reference guide on shells is easy-to-use for the beginner. It had quite a few pictures to make it a good starting point for someone new to collecting and identifying shells. At just 64 pages, it was handy to carry with you in a bag as you walk the beach.
It contained many of the common-named shells, the Latin name, size, and states where it may be found but that was it. If you decide to continue with this fascinating hobby look for better books such as Blair and Dawn Witherington's Florida's Seashells: A Beachcomber's Guide; this is a reference book not limited just to Florida but packed with information. No matter what, consider THE SHELL BOOK a supplement that you could use until you find a more thorough book on beach life.
