A very thorough account of how different meditation practices from India, China and Japan work. among the topics covered are: breathing and centering, sound vibrations, Yoga, and Japa meditation, meditating on the chakras. The concepts of Qi and the Dao are explained along with the meditation practices in these.

I need to preface this review with the confession that I am no Meditation book guru. I often read every book in town on a subject before I decide on the best book and then review it. But this time, I read two. This was was by far the better of the two, and through my inexperienced eyes, looks comprehensive enough for my needs. The other book (to remain unnamed for now) just told me everything I ever didn't want to know about other people meditating, but nothing about exactly how I would go about doing it myself.

It includes obstacles to meditation, different ways to achieve meditation (step by step), and keeps the detailed research data about mediation at the end where it belongs. ;)

So, here's hoping that it will help me learn to control that darn autonomous stress that keeps my chronic pain rollin'!!

I can't give this five stars before I've even tried applying its content in my life, but it deserves a 4 for answering my questions well enough for now.

After reading a really badly written book on meditations this came as a savior of my falling trust in the possibility to share meditation knowledge.

I was translating another meditation book and I took this book to get some answers for the particular terminology. As the first book was written in such a manner that reminds of an excited person trying to tell his/her awesome experience/dream I was surprised that Book of Meditation is so possible to catch.

Although I was not interested in meditation practice myself, I got some useful ideas that I will definitely use.

The book gives an useful insight in the origins of meditation as well as explanations for every little detail of the practice.

Beautifully presented and comprehensive, this is an excellent resource that combines the history of Eastern meditation techniques with practical instruction.
