I was giving this book being told it was a short story for littler audiences, however i can say i throughly enjoyed the sweetness and simplicity of this book.
Short and simple, perfect for people who are learning English looking for a compelling story.
I first learned of The Puffin Keeper years ago while browsing Puffin catalog of books and this book piqued my interest cause I love puffins and love storybooks with illustrations. I didn’t have the means to get a copy of this book back then but this book has always been on the back of my head. This version is the one that I could get my hands to right now, I would really like to read the original book someday but I’m glad that after many years of wishing to read this book, I finally read it.
For this version of the book, the writing is simple and straightforward but still enough to tug on my heart. I respect the kindness of the lighthouse keeper for helping the main character, Allen, his mom and the people on the shipwreck to get to safety. I also like how the lighthouse keeper gave young Allen his painting, maybe deep down he knows that Allen out of all people would truly appreciate his work.
I also love that this book features bird allegory when Allen and the light house keeper has to let go of the puffin they nurse back to health. You love the bird and you want the bird to stay but you know what’s best for the bird is to let it go and let it fly freely. A tough decision to make, but a right decision nonetheless.
Overall, The Puffin Keeper is good book with good story and I highly recommend anyone to try give it a read.
