WOW! I don’t know where to begin writing my review for Shadow Locked by S. T. Sanchez. I guess I will start by saying that Shadow Locked is one of the best books that I have ever read. It is so unique in so many ways. I don’t believe I have read anything like it before even though I have read about people living in the shadows. No, I do believe that Shadow Locked has its own unique essence about it.
I love the whole demise of the story. Shadow Locked grabbed my attention with the first page and hung on right up until the end. As a matter of fact, I do believe that it is still with me as I sit writing this review. I do believe that it will stay with me for a long, long time to come.
S. T. Sanchez has outdone herself once again by writing another amazing and riveting story. I couldn’t turn those pages fast enough as I was enjoying reading it so much. The many twists kept me hanging on wanting more.
I loved the new and unique twists on the shadow people. I liked getting to know every character as they each added something very special to the story. I tried so hard to imagine it all as I was reading but I don’t believe that my imagination did it justice. I would love to see Shadow Locked as a movie or TV show.
Seanna had been taught all her life by her father how to live in the shadows so that shadow people would not come and take them away. When her father passed on Seanna was left to take care of her little brother James. Now it is up to Seanna to teach James about the shadows and the shadow people.
Seanna is also responsible for James’s welfare as well. Seanna works in the store that their father left them to provide for her and James. James helps her out but James has other things on his mind like becoming a deputy sheriff. James’s interest in becoming a deputy sheriff leaves more and more of the chores for Seanna to do.
Having to do more of James’s chores is what led Seanna to meet one of the shadow people, Nate. Nate and Seanna take a while to warm up to each other but they eventually become friends and then their relationship turns more romantic.
Will Seanna be able to resist the shadows? Or will the shadows overtake her? Can Seanna keep the shadows away from James? The more I read the more questions kept popping up. The only way to have all my questions answered was to keep reading. Which I did, of course.
And now I highly suggest you do the same. Well, that is if you are into supernatural stories with a little bit of mystery thrown in. Grab a copy of Shadow Locked today!
In Shadow Locked, the protagonist, Seanna, grapples with the enigmatic advice of her father to avoid shadows, a directive that perplexes her during her peaceful yet ordinary life. At 15, Seanna's world revolves around familial bonds with her brother James, her close friendship with Kaitlyn, and her duties in her father's store. The narrative takes a dramatic turn with the sudden demise of her father, thrusting Seanna into the role of both sibling and surrogate parent to James, while simultaneously managing the family store.
The story intensifies with Seanna's encounter with Nate, an elusive figure visible only in the shadows, who initially appears menacing. Intriguingly, Seanna forges a connection with Nate, evolving from fear to friendship and eventually to romantic feelings. This clandestine relationship, fraught with the challenges of secrecy and risk, forms the crux of the story.
Author S.T. Sanchez expertly captures the vibrancy of teenage life through Seanna's character, reflecting her deep bond with her brother and her admirable sense of responsibility. The narrative delves into the complexities of her secretive relationship with Nate, raising questions about the nature of attraction and the costs of hidden love. The concise and relatable character cast adds to the novel's charm, making it a suitable read for those seeking a modern fiction narrative infused with elements of romance and friendship.
Shadow Locked is perfect for readers seeking a story that combines elements of youthful energy, emotional growth, and the allure of the unknown. This book stands as a notable choice in contemporary fiction, particularly for those who appreciate a narrative rich in both character development and subtle intrigue.
Seanna is 16, has a younger brother James, and they have just lost their father. They lost their mother years before to illness. Their father left them a General Store to own and run in their small town. Winter is currently in its throes. Their father always told them stories about the shadow people and three rules they must abide by, so they do not lose their souls to them. The town took it seriously and kept their lights on all night. Seanna had almost been taken at eight by one, but her father saved her.
When she sees a young man on the borders of the light and shadow, she is scared. Danger surrounds the young man, but she cannot help herself as she further entrenches him in her life. They develop a relationship; as much as one can be possible without succumbing to the shadows. When the secret comes out, many will be in danger! When it becomes her brother and his girlfriend in danger…what will happen? Can anyone save them?
This story is surrounded by shadows at first. It becomes heartbreaking seeing the development between two young people that cannot have a normal love and life together. When things seem most dire, what will happen to intercede on their behalf? Can love and magic and Christmas wishes bring about changes? This book is a standalone with a HEA!
