The Weston Ranch #1

Common Ground

All is fair in love and land...

When Melody Weston shows up on what’s soon to be Jason Cole’s ranch, she’s more than a distraction he doesn’t need; she’s a threat to his very existence.

Rumor has it she’s after his land; and he’ll do whatever it takes to stand in her way. But it isn't long before engaging with Melody has more than just his temperature rising, and suddenly the stakes go way beyond property lines.

Melody views her uncle's ranch as a rest stop on the road to whatever life has in store next. It’s not until she experiences the breathtaking views and quiet wilderness for herself that she realizes maybe she’s already found her destination.

Now if only she could do something about the grouchy cowboy who doesn't like to share.

As heated arguments give way to heated glances, Melody and Jason soon find their rocky relationship burning with something hotter than anger. Now, with both love and land on the line, they must decide if winning the argument is worth losing it all, or if it’s finally time to find some common ground.

Common Ground is a perfectly-paced, enemies-to-lovers cowboy romance that will pull at your heartstrings. Melody Weston is just the right amount of sassy to banter with her uncle’s headstrong farmhand, Jason Cole. The story has interesting layers that unfold as the story progresses and takes some intriguing twists and turns along the way. I can’t wait for the next book in the Weston Ranch series!

This book is wonderfully angsty, spicy and twisty. It is a fascinating enemies to lovers romance with characters that one can’t help but cheer on to a happy ending. Melody and Jason are not looking for romance or a relationship, but with the help of her matchmaking great uncle and perhaps Fate, they find the right match in each other. Oh there is lots of angst, confrontation and anger between them at first, but that gradually changes to a an irresistible attraction then to deeper feelings neither is ready to admit or reveal.

When Melody arrives at her great uncle’s ranch, she is looking for an escape from her everyday life. Her ex, her controlling mother and her too busy social life have left her in need of a vacation. She never expected to have to go toe-to-toe with the ranch manager, Jason, who for some reason has taken an instant dislike to her. She has no idea that he thinks she has come to make sure he doesn’t get his hands on the ranch. The ranch her great uncle has all but promised to him for all his years of back breaking work and devotion to the ranch. She really has no such ambition, though she does see room for improvement in its operation, at least on the financial and record keeping side. Both would never admit, but they begin to look forward to their clashes and a subtle change begins to take place. Her great uncle can see that change, the hot glances, the chemistry and the connection between them. That is why he makes a decision that is meant to bring them together, but may well tear them apart. Will they fight for the love they have yet to admit to each other or let it wither and die?.

Melody desperately needs a vacation—time to get away from her ex-boyfriend, her overbearing mother, late-night parties, and fancy dinners. Luck is on her side, though, cause she has an uncle who owns a ranch. A great-uncle, in fact, who likes to play match-maker. And the ranch seems like the perfect place for some peace and quiet. Or is it? Maybe not so much when she meets Jason, her uncle's right-hand man. He thinks she's come to take what's supposed to be his, so he doesn't spare her too much sympathy. And, well, Melody doesn't like his attitude either.
So, cowboy romance is my new favorite trope. And I love me some good enemies-to-lovers. Jason and Melody are just adorable. I LOVED THE BANTER - it was there from the very beginning! Throw in a bit of forced proximity, and there you have it. Ice starts to melt and sparks begin to fly.
I'm not one who enjoys reading in third person, but if it's well-written like this, I don't mind it at all. The sarcasm was out of the roof, I was giggling the whole time. This book has very funny and easily lovable characters.

Jenifer Lynn is one of my newest favorite romance authors! I love this enemies-to-lovers story set on a ranch! Everyone knows that Jason will inherit the ranch after Jim steps down, but the unexpected arrival of Jim’s niece, Melody, causes Jason to have doubts about that happening. Rumors spread that Melody has plans to take over the ranch from her uncle. To make matters worse, Jason has to keep an eye on her when Jim is out of town. Tensions rise and tempers flare, and I absolutely LOVE the bickering between these characters. But, of course, you just KNOW those walls are going to fall, and they’ll start to have feelings for each other! I really enjoyed this story, with a lively cast of characters. The author has a beautiful writing style with a lot of vivid descriptions, but nothing that bogs down the action. Rather, it brings the story to life in your mind, like a movie, and I was sad when it ended! Fortunately, it looks like there’s more Weston Ranch to come, as this is a series. I can’t wait for it!

So so:
I have mixed feelings about this book. Ultimately I kept expecting more was going to happen and the opportunities were there and then things fizzled out. I also found my attention waning towards the end.
Jason and Melody didn't get off to a good start and butted heads continually. It ended up being a slow burn, rather low heat, enemies to lovers romance. There was also more drama and gossip at this ranch than at a high school but it was still a light and easy read. I did find myself getting annoyed with the characters and the situation that they were stressing over. Jason especially came across as undeserving and entitled. Honestly, who expects to inherit a ranch just because they worked on it for the past 16 years?

Common Ground is a ranch romance set in Michigan between the unlikely pair of city girl Melody Weston and senior ranch worker Jason Cole. The ranch hands think the great-niece of the owner is coming to take over and sell the ranch from the old man.
This is a good contemporary novel in addition to a good romance. I fell for the characters and the plot. I found out I wanted to read more about them and their mysterious pasts.
The novel takes its time, but when the romance comes, readers won’t be disappointed. The scenes are both tastefully and sensually done. This book was a fun time on the ranch.

I was extremely lucky to read a prepublication copy of Common Ground, and it’s hard to know where to start about how much I loved it! I love a good enemies to lovers trope, and this fit the bill perfectly. Not only was the chemistry between Melody and Jason through the roof, but watching them work hard to piss each other off was hilarious. Every character was well written and real, like people I’d love to know. In short, I cannot wait to read this book again and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance. It’s one of my favorite books of the year.

The first in a new contemporary western romance with an enemies to more storyline. The book is well written, with adventure and depth yet flows smoothly from page to page. You will easily fall in love with these characters! They are realistic, driven and tension as they bicker and banter their way to falling in love. It was a wonderfully entertaining read. I am so glad there will be more books in this series.

This was such an entertaining read! Melody and Jason were about to set the whole ranch on fire with how hot things got.
Jason was all set to inherit the ranch when Jim stepped down but then Jim’s niece shows up. Melody planned on this just being a pit-stop but the rumor mill has her taking over the ranch. So that starts a course of bickering and fighting between Jason and Melody, which turns from tempers flaring to them turning up the heat with each other in other ways.

This is my FIRST cowboy romance and it did not disappoint!! I loved Melody and Jason-their rocky start and snippy banter finally giving way to banter a little less snippy and a little more...sultry. Watching Melody and Jason go from fighting about everything to MAYBE being able to see things through each other's eyes...sigh. Very swoony, a rugged hero, and a picturesque setting make Common Ground a 5 star read!!
