Having hearts most of these sermons preached I can fill in the passion, humor and skill of the speaker and the unmistakable sense of the presence of the Holy Spirit which echo faintly in these pages. While few ever experience the white hot glowing of the formation of steel girders or the precision work of the architect as he designs a building, nonetheless there stands the building held together by those girders and that design.
Just so, this book of sermons gives the reader a glimpse into the time when the girders were formed and the design laid down for a family of churches.
These are principles, practices, values and culture that hope to be scalable and enduring for the readers who join Christ as he builds his church.
I find reading sermons that were clearly meant to be heard hard. Also the intro to each just seemed like hero worship. I get it, he's cool, but we don't need a sermoette on that at the beginning of every chapter.
Overall, the sermons themselves were good. I enjoyed reading them, but probably would just look up his sermons online in future instead of reading a book of them.
