This is book three of the Elemental Games series and the contestants from each of the Quadrants have been split apart and only Hayze and Aura, the Fire Element pair are together at last, along with Pace, one of the Water Element pair, as Aura chose to end the Elemental Games. But what awaits them on the other side of the walls is armed guards and drones, waiting to force them back into the leader’s sick game. They have all been through so much as they battled through each of the deadly scenarios n the games, learning to use their elements, most of them anyway. They have all died and watched loved ones die, in this cruel virtual world they were forced into. The four leaders represent each of the elements and quadrants, Adalan, Infernos, Cyclonis and Oceania, want them to pledge allegiance to them and do what they were born to do. As we find out later there have been many previous Elemental Games, but this is the first one in which any of the contestants have managed to use their elements. The leaders say they have won the games, but fail to tell them what comes next, no matter what they ask. All they tell them is that they are the solution to humanity’s survival!
They refuse to do anything without knowing what the leaders want from them and decide to fight their way out. Some other people from the Alliance, that wants war with the leaders and the elite, try to help, but are poorly matched against the leaders armed guards and drones. It is a good diversion at least and they manage to get away and find themselves within the Sect, where Pace wants them to find Tempo, the other water element member. They don’t want to leave anyone behind, it’s time for all the Elements to be united and they will be stronger because of it. After they find Tempo, they will need to locate Jewel, the remaining Earth Element member after Geo died, then the Air Element pair of Skylus and Atmos. When they come across a very alive and uninjured Rateen, who works for the leaders, they realise they are in fact, still in the game, where none of them can really die! They may have managed to escape their pods, where their real bodies are kept, but the leaders are still manipulating everything that surrounds them and what they come up against. Once they have Tempo, they break out into the Terra Quadrant, still being pursued, finding assistance and also betrayal. They also rejoin with Skylus and Atmos, who had been hiding out there. Only Calla, the Earth trade master can assist them in finding the location of Jewel’s pod, somewhere in the trees of Terra.
But conditions change rapidly, shortly after the Alliance appear once more against, as a large group of guards also arrive, with the earth moving below their feet and torrential rain beginning to pour down, causing a landslide and multiple deaths! It seems Mother Nature is at war with the Quadrants and soon all will be destroyed. Each quadrant faces difficulties with the changing weather, with arid conditions in one, to wild fires and sandstorms, flooding and earthquakes, and water everywhere with icebergs creating danger, in others. The leaders have promised the people that the group of eight teens are the Elemental Solution, who will stop all the excessive weather events that plague each quadrant. This is the solution they invented the games for decades ago and finally they have found some teens able to harness the elements as hoped, before their whole world is destroyed. No matter how hard they fight to get out of the game, the leaders have been planning every possible move and outcome for decades and they are soon trapped in a room, all but one of them, with the four leaders who want to force them to their side and control them for their own ends. The leaders want them to go back into the games until all eight have proven they have elemental powers or not. Those that don’t are killed! It is time for the teens to turn the tables on the leaders, but they soon find what they faced is not something they want to make another suffer, even if they were the ones who made them all suffer in the games. They may have to accept an offer, but on their own terms this time, as they hold the upper hand. If their world, their loved ones and all four quadrants and capitals are to survive, they must unite and use their elements to tame Mother Nature once and for all. If not, one of them will survive much longer.
I can’t wait for the finale of this series to find out what they do next, whether they can get the leaders and the rebels to work together for survival of all, or if the leaders will stab them in the back yet again.
