"Who are you?" said the Caterpillar. Alice replied, rather shyly, "I--I hardly know, sir, just at present - at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have changed several times since then."
In his book, Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll sends his character Alice on a quest to find out who she is. In her quest, she is confronted by numerous characters who willingly point out to her who she is and who she is not, none. Their observations are primarily biased and not a little absurd. The good news is that she eventually finds herself by looking in a mirror.
Like Alice, most people base their identity on the judgments and points of view of those around them; parents, teachers, preachers, friends, siblings, and don’t forget mass media. There is so much input of judgment and so many points of view it is very easy to become confused about just who one is.
The Gift of Allowance offers a set of simple tools for finding your own identity without being lost in the fog of other’s points of view about you and your world. Reading the book and using the tools can change your life and allow you to determine just who you are and who you want to be.

‘The Gift of Allowance’ is a self-help book introducing a new perspective on people’s points of view and judgments and how to handle them in a positive way. There is a certain behavioral pattern that begins when you are young and then continues as you get older. What I predominately enjoyed about this book was how relatable it is, and it dictates a premise that everyone can understand and follow. We live in a time and age that is pretty hard to communicate, so books like this are valuable in order for the reader to learn the concept of ‘allowance.’
Social media is also another very important fact we face today. We have a lot of judgments and unsolicited comments that ‘keyboard ninjas’ tend to use without knowing the impact they have on the person’s self-esteem and life. So, I appreciated how the author equipped the reader with the right tools to accommodate such judgments.
The written work is also kept to be enjoyable and educational at the same time. It teaches you how to live a happier life. I look forward to reading more from this author and recommend this book to readers seeking useful self-help material.
That book challenged me in a way that I had to look at a lot of things that were not working in my life and shift it so I could have different possibilities. It was about letting go of judgements so I could be in allowance of myself instead of other people’s points of view!
OMG -- best book yet. I have listened to this on audible twice and each time I hear something different. I may have to listen to it 100 times to get everything out of the book.
