Ten years on it is not so easy to spot the relevance of some of what this play seems to be about but at its core is a fascinating story of a love triangle with some interesting subplots, told with the trademark wit and phrasing. Narrators elevate it to a kind of Greek affair and I would like to see it in performance with the songs included. However, this was the last Armitage publication I bought ( completing my set) and I would say that it would not be the starting point I would recommend for readers new to the great man, although the amusement might make it not the worst either.
