A journey of self-transformation, courage, and resilience. At the age of 18, driven by rebellion and fearlessness, Almudena leaves her home in southern Spain, carrying her few possessions in plastic bags. She ventures to the United States with no money, no knowledge of English, and no familiarity with American culture, entering the world of undocumented immigration. A Spaniard assumed to be a Latin American immigrant, she grapples with issues of prejudice, identity, and the pursuit of her voice. A love story emerges, born from two fractured souls. Against all odds, she pursues her education at one of the world’s top universities, eventually becoming a respected professor while navigating the overwhelming demands of motherhood. At each life crisis, she finds tools from guides, books, and from within to change what she can and return to a celebration of life at its fullest. With the precision of the electrical engineer, she had trained to be, she shares with the reader her successful process to alchemize powerful emotions into the courage to confront adversity, find inner resources, and create sanctuary for those she loves.

I love how it is truly an inspiring story of how growing up in a dysfunctional household doesn’t have to shape your whole life and through hard work she managed to succeed in all aspects of her life and I love her quote about falling in love with Mike “it doesn’t make sense but it feels right” what better way is there to describe your soul mate

The struggles of growing up

Having grown up on n a really dysfunctional family, Almadema uses that frustration to focus and become successful. She succeeded not only in the academic world but in her family, friends and co workers. Makes you think about your own life.

Great book! Konrad's stories are brave. Stories of perseverance that we can all relate to. Her personality comes alive, as a person of action.
